The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)

by gracekkh2004

The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) is a modern, air-conditioned passenger train service with stations all over the city. You can obtain a copy of A Quick Guide to MRT Travel from the Station Control Rooms in all MRT stations. For more information on both the MRT and bus services, you can refer to the TransitLink Guide which is available at SGD 1.50 in most MRT stations and bus interchanges as well as at major bookstores. Travelling on the MRT is cheap, with rides ranging from SGD 0.80 to a maximum of SGD 1.70. Instead of using cash, you may choose to pay your MRT and bus fares with a stored value ez-link Card. The Card can be bought or revalued from any TransitLink Ticket Sales Office located in most MRT stations and bus interchanges. Each adult Card is sold with a minimum value of SGD 10 plus a deposit fee of SGD 5.

Getting around in S´pore

by amazonaNne

For the fact that I have never been to S´pore before I was quite surprised when I saw the "high tech" metro- system ! Very clean ( of course don´t forget where we are), always in time and very well planned ! For though you can do a lot on foot, the MRT is the best way to get around.

The quickest way to get from one point to the other in Singapore, a ride on one of the MRT Train will enable you to experience the 'daily' means of transportation used by most locals. With the ever efficient service provided by SMRT, a ride on the MRT will satisfy your travelling needs. Sit back and enjoy the sights as the MRT run along most of the places of interest. For the travel-time, fares info and many more, view the website address below.

the very very Efficient MRT

by cheapskate

Having just returned from europe, i've really come to appreciate Singapore's MRT. First of all, it's much cheaper! They keep to a very strict schedule.. All lines are always working.. and it's CLEAN! free from vandalism.Check out website to find out about the first and last trains and the fares.Fares range from S$0.90 to S$2.00If you are gonna be here for more than 2 days, i would advise you to get an EZ-link card with a usage value of $10 and a deposit of $2 (maybe $5 coz they may have raised the price). If you have used up the $10 top up at any of the machines or top up counter. Claim your refund and whatever unused value before you leave.

Sentosa Bus Service

by traps

This is the main form of travel in the island. You may board the bus from the world trade centre or the gateway and it will shuttle you in the island. There, you may also board various colour codes bus services to get from one attraction to another.

Ferry Services

This is the ferry, which passengers would board to go to Batam, an Indonesian island, 30mins away from mainland Singapore. You may board it at the World Trade Centre (near Sentosa) and purchase tickets from the Penguin Ferry Services.

Singapore Airlines

by kiwigal_1

When we flew to Singapore we got a great deal with Singapore Airlines. From Auckland to Singapore return including three nights accommodation it cost us NZ$998Singapore Airlines is excellent. In the economy section we sat in there were mini TV's on the back of every seat. You are able to watch a selection of movies at any time (fast forward, rewind and pause options available). There are also some trivia games which we found quite entertaining.

Taxis

by bkoon

Taxi services in Singapore are reliable and comfortable. Three main taxi companies - Comfort, TIBS Taxis and CityCab - operate round the clock. Most are equipped with the global positioning system for instant locating. Getting a taxi is hassle-free. Taxi-stands are located outside major buildings and shopping centres. Alternatively, you can book one, by phone or fax, within a half-hour or in advance. Or, you can hail one quite easily from the pavement. Fares are metered and strictly regulated by the government's Land Transport Authority. So, commuters can sit back and enjoy their rides without fear of overcharging. Briefly, the fare structure is as follows: Flag-down charge up to first km - S$2.40 Current booking - S$2 to S$3 Advance booking - S$4 to S$5.20 Surcharge from airport - S$3Contact Numbers in case you are calling a cab :CityCab - 6552 2222 Comfort Cab - 6552 1111TIBS Taxis -...
