Depending on where you're...

by volarevolare

Depending on where you're coming from, you can reach Singapore by air, land or sea. It also depends on the type of holiday you're on, or on the budget you're working with. The best way to move around is to use the public transport system which included the MRT trains or buses. Taxis are easily available but cost more.In fact, you can take a train from Changi Airport into town or vice versa now. The train station is located in Terminal 2 of Changi Airport. Much cheaper than taking a taxi from the airport to your hotel.Check out these sites for more information, they all provide very useful bits of information that would help you plan how you want to move around Singapore:Changi Airport: http://www.changi.airport.com.sg/changi/index_1024.aspMRT train system:http://www.smrtcorp.com/smrt/index.htmSingapore Bus guide:http://www.sbstransit.com.sg

To get in Singapore from...

by JohnBee

To get in Singapore from Malaysia take bus nr. 171. (to Malaysia it's the 170). This bus starts at the bus terminal of Johor Bahru. This bus will cross the Singapore-Malaysia border and take you to Singapore. It will eventually stop at queen street. The irritating part is you have to get in and out of the bus 2 times to get a Malay stamp and to get a Singaporean stamp in your passport. Take care you keep your bus ticket, because you will be asked for it. It can be extremely crowded. The MRT (Mass Rapid Transport)is a good way to go around in Singapore. You can buy a MRT-card at one of the MRT stations. This card can also be used in the buses. One side of the card is used for the bus, the other side of the card is used for the MRT.The taxi is also a good alternative. It's not expensive to take a taxi in Singapore. During rush hours ERP (electronic road payment)can cause additional fees. At...

We flew with Emirates to Singapore. Emirates was the best airline I have ever flown with and I am paying more to fly to Thailand this year so I can fly with them again! Singapore airport is like nothing I have ever seen in airports! It is truely fantastic! When flying out of Singapore check in early so you can use the facilities! There is a roof top pool which is fab becuase you can relax before you flight and watch the planes landing as you are having a swim!! There is also a jacuzzi, showers and various other facilities. The smoking room is very funny as I don't smoke, becuase it is like a glass fish bowl in the middle of the departure lounge which is basically full of smoke. One person I spoke to said it was enough to just stick his head in the room and breathe in a few times instead of lighting up a cigerette of his own! There are also loads of fab shops to mill around and a variety...

by chiwawa

Singapore Airlines is one of the finest airlines I've had opportunity to fly. Changi Airport is one of the most beautiful airports I've had opportunity to visit. The subway is supereasy to use. Even for a dumb American who grew up in a town (Dallas) with no 'real' mass transit system. You can also walk just about anywhere in S'pore. The crime rate is very low. S'pore is very intolerant of crime so the streets feel very safe.

If you're willing to do the long haul to Singapore, I would recommend taking the national carrier, Singapore Airlines. Their service (even in economy) compares to no other in the industry. All the flight attendants make you feel like a First-Class passenger. In addition to encompassing the flawless, porcelain skin and well-tailored uniforms (the men and women), they were all very warm, friendly, and really take their job seriously! The meals on the flights were decent and the seating was comfortable.Definitely a great way to fly! Because it is so expensive to own a car in Singapore (some locals say it's triple to what we pay in the US), the public transportation within the city is one of the best in the world. I had no problems catching a bus, a cab, or just walking. Singapore is a very easy city to get around in.

USE THE SUBWAY. As usual, the concierge at our hotel wanted to give me a taxi, but I opted for the subway. It is very clean and efficient as anything in the world. You can buy 2 day passes (or longer or shorter) which keeps you from having to buy a card every time. Watch how the people crowd the doors when a train arrives and never let people off, it made me chuckle.

Must the Mrt( Mass rapid Transit ) of course.and bus for an all round connection ;-)And now, you could take the train from the AIRPORT as of 1 Feb 2002 to the town area or wherever. It's fast efficient and economical too.Still of course we have the taxis as well with some drivers willing to be 'part-time' travel guides ;-)

by kendable

Watch out! The electronic road toll system ERP is brutal and we only found out when we were trying to leave Singapore by motorbike. We discovered there were massive fines to pay, so we had to go back and change some more Singapore dollars to pay the fines. Then back to the Woodland Ministry of Fear, Phil pays his fine and proceeds through to Carnet-stamping-guy. Computer lady looks at my Autopass card and says,'But your fine is not $70.''What ... but ... how much?''$350.''What?!! How can that be? We've ridden everywhere together the last 3 days!'Apparently not. When she brought up the details of the offences it turned out I had been on the road twice on my own. Once on Tuesday afternoon going to the KK Hospital, and once that morning posting some letters home. In those two short trips I had racked up $280 worth of fines.

The best way to get into...

by jingle

The best way to get into Singapore is definitely by flight as Singapore Changi Airport has been voted the Best Airport in Asia and in the World. If you are entering Singapore from Malaysia, you can choose rail, bus or car as well. But if u are seriously thinking of driving into Singapore, please be aware of the charges involve for weekdays. The best way to get around Singapore is definitely using the public transport: Mass Rapid Transport (MRT), Buses or Taxis. The latest MRT station recently opened is the one at Singapore Changi Airport, meaning you can now travel by MRT directly from the airport to town. There is even a Travel-Make-Easy TransitLink Hotline to provide bus and mrt information at 1800-767 4333. After the operating hours of the bus/mrt, you can rely on taxi or walk (possible as Singapore is a very small country and just a little red dot on the map). There is a 50% surcharge...

I suspect that not many people even KNOW that Singapore has a CRUISE CENTRE. It looks kind of like the airport as far as checking in and booking tickets goes. There are numerous ticketing agencies that will sell you a ferry trip over to one of the neighboring Indonesian or Malaysian islands, not so far away (within an hour). Some of the larger Cruise Ships, such as this one, are run by Princess Cruises (of Love Boat fame). They make trips up the Malay Penninsula over to Thailand and other runs over to Hong Kong. Trips range in length from a weekend getaway to nowhere and up to 1 or 2 weeks. THIS PHOTO was taken from an over-passing CABLE CAR!!!The Cruise Centre is located at the World Trade Centre in Singapore, the same place that you go to book entry to Sentosa Island. TIP: Go upstairs and look for the 'WAVING GALLERY' which will take you out alongside a ship like this when its berthed.
