Bus from Seoul to Danyang, South Korea

The best and cheapest way to travel from Seoul to Danyang town is by the local inter-city bus network. At Seoul, go to the Dong Seoul bus terminal and look for buses to Danyang. The bus frequency should be about 1 bus per hour from morning 7am to 7pm. As for the timetable of the return trip back to Seoul, it is clearly displayed at the Danyang bus terminal (see photo).

Cost per trip is about US$15-20 and the journey takes about 3 hours. You do not need to worry about alighting at the wrong place because Danyang town is final stop of the bus journey.

Please go to part 2 for more information and photographs.

When you are at Danyang town, you can take buses to nearby attractions such as Guinsa Temple (about 1 hour away) and Sobaeksan National Park (about 30 minutes away).

For Guinsa Temple, the buses are at the Danyang Bus Terminal (same place as buses arriving from Seoul) located next to the river and the bridge. Cost is less than US$5 per trip and the bus will send you all the way to the front entrance of the temple. The journey is spectacular through mountain and river sceneries. Bus frequency is about 1 hour.

As for Sobaeksan National Park, the buses are at the bus stop just outside the bus terminal and bus frequency is also about 1 hour. Journey takes about 30 minutes all the way to the bus entrance, and cost per trip is about US$1-2 dollars.

    Walking around Danyang

To fully admire the charm and beauty of Danyang town (especially in autumn with clean cool air and beautiful coloured leaves), the best way is to explore the town and river side by foot.

It is easy to move around as the town is not very big, with not much traffic. One of the attractions is the town market which you should visit in the morning. Also, the riverside walk is very relaxing, with well laid paths and music being broadcast along the journey. During summer, there is even an artificial waterfall at the mountains just across the river. At night, the bridge is lighted up with many colours, very beautiful.

If you are planning to visit the famous Gosu Caves from Danyang town, it is actually within walking distance. Simply cross the Danyang bridge near to the bus terminal. After that, you will see the visitor's centre. Turn right and the Gosu Caves can be reached after about 10 minutes walk from here. During autumn, the scenery of the walk is very beautiful with the colourful foliage.

After you walk through the car park which is surrounded by shops, you will reach the ticketing booth of Gosu Caves (see photo).

    Boat cruise along Namhan River

Boat cruise platform at Namhan River

During the summer months, there are boat cruises along the Namhan River which runs through Danyang town. Unfortunately, the boat cruises did not operate when I was there during Nov 2009. I guess it could be due to the low tourist season and also perhaps the water level of the river may be too low during autumn.
