Currency Notes
As of today (June 23, 2009), Korea has now officially issued the 50,000 KRW note. It is yellow in color.

Until now, Korea had only issued paper currency in the denominations of 1,000 / 5,000 / 10,000.
This was done for a various number of reasons, but most popularly accepted is to deter corruption and bribery. It is widely accepted that passing along large sums of untraceable money is more difficult if the largest denomination is 10,000 KRW ($7.80 USD as of June 23, 2009).

Korean banks and cash kiosks are distributing the new 50,000 notes (~$39 USD) immediately.
Limited ATM's are already capable of distributing, but bank branches are being fitted quickly.

According to one on-line site:
"The portrait on the new bill is another source of ongoing controversy. The bank selected Shin Saim-dang — a renowned writer, artist and calligrapher and mother of Lee Yulgok, a scholar whose face is on the 5,000-won bill. She is the first woman to be featured on Korean currency.

Bank of Korea officials said she was selected for her talent and because she embodied the cultural ideals of being dutiful to her parents, devoted to her husband, and dedicated to educating her children. But not all Koreans are happy with the choice."

Ginseng chicken soup was royal kitchen, but became successful among normal people.

The chicken is small one and inside put with ginseng (Korean herbal) and sticky rice. Together stewing till soft. The chicken will be melt in your mouth. The soup tastes light and sweet. If you fill ginseng alkohol in it, it will smell better and stronger. One eats ginseng chicken usually with long-life-noodles= thin white noodles. The sticky rice inside chicken which absorbs essence of ginseng and chicken is the most delicious part that you should never miss.

Korean street stands are in tends. The most offer Korean national food, spicy rice cake, fried dumpling, fried seafood etc. The sauce of spicy rice cake is hot-red, but the taste is not as spicy as fire. It's a bit sweet. Unlike Taiwanese dumplings, Korean dumplings are huge and big.

The best B.B.Q in the world is in South-Korea
Before baking, pork slices are dept in special sauce (pear juice etc). They taste already great with rice. Korean people eat B.B.Q port slices wrapped in sesame leaves and together with favorite garlic or Kim-Chi or small fishes etc. You will feel never guilty full, oily or disgusting. Vegetable fade the fat away. Top recommended.

How to make Kim-Chi? Fresh Cabbages mop with salt, especially near the root more. Lay a while, wash by water, do not dry it by hands, just lay it down.

Wiping with special sauce leaf by leaf from up to down, at the root more. The special sauce is made of red-hot-pepper skin, spring-onlion, garlic, fish sauce, shrimp sauce, redish, rice water etc. Please see my Kim-Chi!!

Adaptor plugs in S Korea
S Korea uses 220V, 60Hz

Typical outlet will be the 2-pin outlet with side grounding:
http://kropla.com/!f.htm

This will universally accept the European 2-pin plug:

Nice hotels may have a universal outlet that allows for 110/220V and USA/Japan 2-pin, or British 3-pin rectangular blade plugs:

Climate in Korea
We think July and August is rainy season, it means you can have heavy showers for 2~3days period.
But I don't think it will spoil your iteneraty unless you would climb Mountains.
Also ferry schedule may be apt to rainshwer.
But you don't need to care for rain shower in general.

I think climate is more worm enough to notice compared to my childhood times.

Finding your Way Around Seoul
In Seoul, it's difficult to find addresses. A few reasons are behind Seoul's confusing landscape. 1. The first reason is that there are millions of forks in the roads where you'll often have a choice among five avenues, alleyways and roads.
2. Addresses for buildings and houses are numbered according to when they were built. So, a house that's number three can be a house that's number 1111.
3. The locals often don't know the places you're looking for and it's not because there is a lack of communication but because of the reasons above.

You have to use landmarks and subway stops to get around Seoul.
