There are many sites of Royal Tombs, all within 40 kilometers of Seoul and have been designated as UNESCO heritage site.

These tombs have been classified as

    1) Neung tombs for thhe kings and queens and those posthumously granted such titles.

    2) Won tombs for Crown Princes and wives and parents of royalty.

Joseon Dynasty were Korean rulers spanning from 1392 to 1910.

Generally, I found that these tombs are spread out, small and now all covered with very green grass - well maintained for visitors.

You will know you are in Korea (or little Koreatown) when you see the unique Korean written script "Hangul"

Both North and South Korea used to use the "Hanja" or Chinese characters which can still be seen at temples and palaces.

Hangul is a phonetic script based on the combination of 14 consonants and 10 vowels. It is fun to learn just to recognize the word "Seoul" or "Busan"

A few characters can go a long way.

These delicious little cakes, known in Korea as Hodo Kwaja, are a taste sensation. A donut like batter shaped as a walnut shell, with chopped walnuts and an inner filling of sweet read bean. These were being made freshly at the freeway rest areas. Very filling and yummy.

South Korean beer is excellent. Supurb. Some of the best i've tasted- smooth, light, fresh... The two that i enjoyed were Cass and Hite. Hite is brewed in the provence that Wonju belongs to usuing deep underground water- it is known for its natural fresh taste.

It was so great to come home from the performance, on a high due to the cheers and atmosphere, and go down to the bar with my friends and drink to health!

    Kimchi

Kimchi is the most well known traditional Korean dish consisting of fermented chili peppers and vegetables (usually cabbage). From what i observed it was served with every meal, and dutifully trying to engage in a full cultural experience, i ate it for breakfast lunch and dinner... lasting 3 days. I just couldn't stomach it for breakfast any longer and reverted back to fruit and cereal.

It is very spicy- at my limit of being able to eat. But it makes you feel pretty fresh in the sinuses after consumption.

As a vegetarian, i knew at least i would be able to eat something every meal, and if served with rice i could be contented.

Earlier forms of Kimchi were simply salted vegetables as chili was not introduecd to Korea until Portugese traders brought it from Japan in the 16th centry. At one restaurant we tried the non-chili Kimchi, but it tastes pretty bland in comparison (tip: if you dont like kimchi coz it is too spicy, mix it with non-chili kimchi to dull the spice down).

    Kimchi Ingredients:
Chinese Cabbage (traditioally it would be other local leaves)
    Radish
    Garlic
Red Pepper (seemingly lots of it!)
and anything else from squid, to ginger to cucumber

It is reportedly pretty healthy stuff- aid digestion, prevent cancer etc. Admittedly on the 3 days i managed to eat kimchi with each meal i felt less full and got hungry faster (indicating more efficient digestion).

Except for the newest or totally remodeled parts of Korean towns, other areas show the add-ons related to the electric power distribution. Inextricable tangles run horizontally, vertically and sideways across buildings and poles. Certainly not the best in terms of safety, I just wonder how can these things withstand the heavy seasonal rains and what an earthquake would cause!

  • Korea is located in the northern part of the Asian continent. It's a country with four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Spring: lasts from late Mar to May with picturesque blooming flowers covered the country's mountains and fields

Summer: lasts from Jun to early Sept with a hot and humid weather throughout

Autumn: lasts from Sept to Nov and also the best season to visit Korea with this mild weather.

Winter: lasts from Dec to mid-Mar where the weather turn bitterly cold and heavy snow in the northern & eastern parts of Korea. Nevertheless, it's also a favourite destination for skiing goers.

So Make sure you are dressed approporiately for the different seasons.
