Immigration issues for Filipinos coming to Korea

by steven1117

You would need to go to the Korean Embassy in Manila to get information about that. Recently, there have been some issues with regard to Filipinos getting visas, and there has been a back-and-forth squabble. This was brought about by Korean businessmen who were being extorted by Filipino immigration officials, and Korea retaliated by suspending visas for OFW's.Your best bet is to call and get current information.KoreaKorean Embassy in the Philippines10th Floor, The Pacific Star Building Makati Avenue, Makati CityTel.: (632) 811 6139Fax.: (632) 811 6148Korean Consulate in the Philippines3/F One Marian Center, 106 Esteban St. Legaspi Village Makati CityTel.: (632) 817 5703Fax.: (632) 817 5845

From the USA, No Tourist Visa Needed

by GracesTrips

Traveling to other countries is sometimes tricky. For example, to travel to Thailand or Brazil, you need to obtain a tourist visa and the price ranges from US$30 to US$130 per person. You do not need a tourist visa to go to South Korea unless you plan on staying for more than 60 days.

About Money: having plenty but unable to use it

by FriederikevonRabenau

Checking out temples and hiking in the national parks in autumn with the leaves starting to turn I have three fondest memories of South Korea. The first one was to have received an impromptu invitation into someone's private house for a cup of tea. It was a bit of a strange situation as neither the lady who invited us in nor her husband spoke any English. So we just sat there and smiled at eachother. The second one was to find a Mac Donalds in Seoul after having eaten nothing but fatty pork belly and Kim chi for days on end.The third one was to find a bank that actually exchanged foreign currency. We had changed some money in Seoul and went to the lovely National Park of Songnisan to go hiking for a few days. We realized that there was one bank in Songnisan but only when it came to exchanging money did we realize that it did not 'do foreign money'. On top of this we had to find a local...

Learn Some Korean Online

by al_jensen

If you have any interest in learning some Korean before you arrive, I would suggest checking out: http://www.onlinelearnkorean.com . This site is especially good if you are going to teach ESL, because there is an entire section devoted to phrases that you are going to want to know if you will be working in hagwon. Also, http://korean.sogang.ac.kr/ is the best overall site for learning Korean, if you want a more in-depth analysis of grammar and such. Unfortunately, perhaps it is not as immediately useful as http://www.onlinelearnkorean.com . My favorite memory of Korea is staying at a condo on this lake created by daming up this river, so that swimming it you literally felt like you were floating near the top these mountains. I went down at dawn and swam the lenght of the lake, as rain fell so hard that the drops shot water 5 centimeters up into the air, creating a haze above the water.

How much is that doggie in the window?

by globespinner

Please be carefull when eating anything on the streets that contians the words meat and not beef. Odds are if you are eating a two dollar street vendor meat sandwich while across town they charge you $45 US for a 3oz beef steak in a Korean BBQ joint... well my friend, Let me just say... you ate dog! Enjoy! Great shopping. You may think you are going to a subway stop but it is actually a whole city under ground that is all shops. The names of the restaurants and hotels... Very odd to say the least.

Communication in South Korea

by lekhatuazon

If you only travel only in Seoul, you can ask for the help from the teenagers, who you think they should be a student. They may can communicate with you in English but not ask the old people. But someone their English is very good. Even the people who cannot speak English sometimes they are very kind to help us.And if you wanna go somewhere by yourself, you have to ask your hotel/hostel/guesthouse reception to write the place in Korean, it will be helpful. I always found the people who also help me when I have travelled in South Korea even they cannot speak English. They've just seen the place I wanna visit or can understand from the place name. They brought me to the destination even it's not their destination to go.

Shopping bags

Remember to bring your own carrier bags while shopping in Jeju. To help preserve forestry, even the toothpick they made are not made of wood but an edible vermicelli, which is usually green in colour!
