Jin Mi House: Great sea food - Korean Sashimi

Restaurant is rated one of the best in Jeju. It looks average from both outsie and inside. The difference is you can find a lot pictures of the owner/chef with important people/visitors from all around the world.The chef is very famous because he has an unique way to prepare sashimi of Giant grouper, snapper, and other kind of fish. We enjoyed dinner, and a chat with the chef. In the end he took a world map ask each of us to sign our names on our respective countries in the map and took a picture with us. I guess our picture will be hanged in his restaurant soon. :) Giant grouper, abalone sashimi, soup, pan cake,... all good!

JEJU ORANGE

The most well known fruit is the mandarin orange. It has been grown here as early as the era of the Three Kingdoms. Mandarin orange, were offered as presents to kings along with abalone as special products of Jeju.The Jeju orange is renowned across the nation because of its taste, which is tart and sweet with a spicy fragrance and freshness.The color of the orange is yellowish. Foods from Jeju mainly made with saltwater fish, vegetables, and seaweed, and are usually seasoned with soybean paste. The number of dishes set on a table is small. The taste of the food is generally a bit salty, probably because foods are easily spoiled due to the warm temperature. Kalchi Kui - broiled hair-tail fish - long silver colored fish. Very tender taste. Hwae (raw fish, squid, lobster) - fresh thin slices of delicate fish. Even Koreans from the mainland value local fresh fish; once you are on Jeju you must taste it. Yangnyom kalbi - marinated pork or beef ribs grilled on charcoal. Tender meat slices are grilled right on the table on a pot grill using charcoal.

We were hungry after a day at the beach. We were looking for some seafood with a relaxing ambiance. We found it at the Suites Hotel after taking a look at what they had set up on the veranda. The Shabu Shabu was the freshest I had ever tasted!

Hubby and I were just wandering about in the little town in Jeju (Namjeju-gun) and looking for a place to eat when we stumbled into this little joint. We have this unwritten rule that if a joint was crammed with locals, the food must be good and cheap. We went in . Afterall, we did see a lot of happy locals inside, feasting away, sitting barefoot and cross-legged.Sometimes, a good phrase book and lots of animated gestures can get you a good meal. I can vouch for it since this happened to me in Jeju, Korea. Since I spoke pidgin Korean, it took both of these to get a delicious BBQ pork meal from a patient restaurateur. Other than bearing with my limited vocab, the restaurateur also taught us how to wrap a fragrant leaf together with condiments and BBQ pork before eating. Nice authentic experience that spoke volumes about the warmth of Koreans. And yes, the food was cheap, it must have cost...
