SHOP FOR LOCAL SPECIALITIES

by ancient_traveler

There are many shopping centers throughout Jeju. At any of the shopping centers, you can find most of Jeju's local specialties such as dol-harubang (stone grandfather statues), key holders, picture frames, cactus cosmetic products, and canola flower chocolates.

E Mart: Jeju Soju

by iwys

Before I went to Jeju-do, I read another VT member, im_jyoung's tip that Jeju soju was the best she had ever had in her life. When I got there I found there are two brands. So, I tried them both. Of the two, I preferred Hallasan: the one in the green bottle. A bottle costs less than 1,000 won in a supermarket, like E Mart, but sells for 3,000 won in restaurants.

market stalls: Oranges

by iwys

Jeju oranges are very expensive, but every Korean visitor feels obliged to take two boxes back home: one for the family and the other for work. In fact, my flight to Jeju was delayed by fifteen minutes because it took so long to unload all of the boxes of oranges from the plane. The cheapest price I saw was 10,000 won for a box of eight medium-sized Jeju oranges. That was at a market stall on the south coast. The most expensive I saw was 39,500 won ($40) for a box of five large Jeju ranges at the airport. At E Mart, the big supermarket in Jeju city, the price was 27,800 won for a box of eight Jeju oranges. So, best to buy them in the south of the island, where they grow them. Don't wait to buy them at the last minute at the airport.

Ask around for prices

by Evelyna_

While shopping for bags, shoes, clothes, etc, do check out with a second store for prices. Sometimes, bargaining at one store is useless unless you know how much exactly this piece of item you want is worth in that area. E.g. I purchased a pouch at 6000 won after bargaining and thinking I got a deal, but at the end of the road, a store is selling the same piece at 4000 won before bargaining.Tip from the guides: "The further you walk in, the cheaper the things"Tested and proven. ^_^

Tent Near Dragon Head Rock: Buy small Mandarin Oranges

by Evelyna_

A small make shift tent near the stairs to take photos of Dragon Head Rock. Small Mandarin Oranges (Ju Zi) are very sweet and nice. Though other tents are selling at 8000 won, this tent's oranges are nicer and sweeter than the rest. Small Mandarin Oranges (Ju Zi) 10,000 won for a box.

Everywhere: Honey

by Carino

Jeju-Do is famous for its honey and definitely a nice souvenir from the island. Sometime you can buy it in a package with Tea or Jam. Good stuff! A few bucks for a single jar, up to around 30 bucks if it comes along Jam or Tea.
