SANBANGGULSA GROTTO

by ancient_traveler

Is a natural grotto located halfway up the steep slopes of Mt. Sanbangsan on the southwestern coast. One of the most famous sight on the island, the view from the grotto over the coastal fields and offshore waters is spectacular. The 5m-high rock cave at the cliff on the southwest side of the mountain was originally called Sanbanggul Cave, but it is called a temple now because it possesses a Buddhist statue. Inside the cave, you can see Marado Island and the Dragon Head Coast. You can also see small ponds being made by the water drops that fall from the ceiling all through the year. The plant zone on a cliff of Mt. Sanbangsan is also designated as a natural monument. Sanbanggulsa GrottoAt Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal, take bus bound for Mt.Sanbangsan. Get off at Mt. Sanbangsan bus stop.At Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal, taxi takes 40 minutes. At Jeju Seogwipo Terminal, take a local Bus bound...

Sangumburi crater

by bladedragon

Sangumburi is a crater with a circumference of over 2 km, designated as Natural Monument. It is located on the southeast side of Jeju-si, and is a flat crater, about 650 meters wide, 100 meters deep, and 2,070 meters in circumference. If you look at the crater from above up, it looks like a man-made circular stadium. There is a variety of plant-life in the crater. On the north side, Nandaeseong vegetation such as red-thorn trees, and magnolia trees grow, along with the rare winter strawberries. On the south side of the crater, Ondaerim vegetation such as evergreens, maples, and mountain strawberry trees cover the area. Because so many different kinds of trees and plants grow in such a limited space, it attracts he attention of researchers as well. It's amazing how you can just hike a couple hundred meters from busstop and witness such a huge crater... simply amazing...

Manjang Cave

by bladedragon

Manjanggul (Manjang Cave) is a lava tube that was formed about 200,000 years ago.It has the largest lava column in the world (about 7m) complete with a preserved lava flow lines (we can see it from the cave walls but it's not shown well in this pic coz it's very dark inside). But the thing that amazed me was the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the cave. It was pretty hot outside at that time prolly about 34 degree celcius, and just when I stepped into the entrance, cold freezing air breeze thru my body...Yep you can feel the cold breeze around half way down the stairs...It is said that the temperature inside rarly goes above 15 degrees celcius.

Jeongbang waterfall

by bladedragon

Jeongbang pokpo waterfall is said to be the only water fall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean (err... or maybe not so directly). On the wall of the water fall, there is an inscription written “Seobulgwacha”, referring to Seobul passing by this place. Seobul was a servant of the Chinese Emperor Jin (BC 259~210) who was ordered by the Emperor to find the substance that would make him immortal. Seogwipo is also said to have gotten its name to mean Seobul headed back west. Jeongbang Waterfall is situated by a high cliff by the sea, and an old evergreen stands there leaning back as if it would fall into the ocean.

Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise peak)

by bladedragon

This is a good place to have a "minbak" which means something like "homestay".Because you can catch sunrise in the next morning at the sunrise peak.Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption about 100,000 years ago. Located on the eastern end of Jejudo Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater, it looks like a gigantic crown. While the southeast and north sides are cliffs, the northwest side is a hill with grass that is connected to the Seongsan Village. The ridge is good for walks and for horse riding as well. The sunrise from the crater suppose to be magnificent, although when I was there it was quite a cloudy morning. Also the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak between the bright yellow colored rapeseed flowers in the spring is a sight that...

Cheonjiyeon (God’s pond) waterfalls

by bladedragon

Cheonjiyeon, meaning god’s pond, derives its name from the legend that the seven fairies serving the King of Heaven came down to the pond by stairs of cloud and bathed in its clean water.Cheonjiyeon falls is one of the 3 series of waterfalls along the southern part of Jeju island, which is also where the annual Seven Fairies Festival is held every May.

Jungmun resort area

by bladedragon

Initially we wanted to visit Cheonjeyeon pokpo (Cheonjeyeon waterfall), which is one of the 3 waterwalls in the southern part of Jeju island (the other two are: Cheonjiyeon pokpo and Jeongbang pokpo). We later found out that the waterfall is part of Jungmun resort area, other than that, there's also Pacific Land, Yeomiji Arboretum, fishing village for tourists, Seonimgyo Bridge, and Jungmun Beach.

Yongduam Rock (dragon head rock)

by bladedragon

This is the first place we visited coz it's located in the northern part of Jeju. Honestly it wasn't THAT spectacular, so if you have plenty of time there, of course by all means please visit it since it's pretty near the airport. But otherwise, you could give this one a miss.

The best Beach in Korea?????

by Christianzagar

Hamdeuk beach is about 30 mins east of Jeju City. A taxi from the airport will cost you about 10000won (10$)In my opinion it is the cleanest, nicest quietest beach in Jeju and probably Korea. The water is so clear and the sand is so silky.Free Camping is available infact most of my pics were taken from just infront of my tent. There are also a bunch of Yeogwan (cheap hotels right near the beach that were 30 000won a night during high season)
