Manjanggul Cave

by izsak02

From Jeju Bus Terminal (Jeju City), take a local bus for 45mins to a road that would take you to the cave (tell the driver you want to go to Manjanggul Cave). The bus DOES NOT go to the cave. There was a cab waiting on the intersection when we arrived and the driver offered us a ride for W3000 ($3US).This cave is not so interesting as I thought it would be. It was more like a short subway train tunnel to me. But of course with lava as your stepping ground and with a couple of weird looking lava rock formation.

Hike the highest mountain of South Korea

by izsak02

This mountain may be the highest mountain in South Korea but it's definitely one of the easiest to hike. From the trailhead to about three quarters of the trail is a boardwalk and has very gradual incline. Water source is located about half way up the trail. From Seogwipo Bus terminal (southern part of Jeju-Do), take a bus for 35mins to Seongpanak Ticket Booth (trailhead). Hiking Mt. Hallasan has some restrictions regarding time to start and time to end the hike. They close the gate for summit hikers at 10am, and they asked you to leave the summit by 2:30pm. From Jindallaebat (was a shelter now a store about 3/4 up the trail), hikers are not allowed to hike to the summit after 1pm. The reason for these restrictions is, it supposed to take 4:30hrs to hike to summit from Seongpanak, and about the same time to descend. They don't want people hiking after sunset. This hike took us 2:45hrs up...

Seongsan Sunrise Peak

by glazaro

Obviously given its name, the big highlight here is supposedly the sunrise that you can catch from the peak, if Jeju's weather doesn't get in the way. On my one full day of sightseeing, I could only manage an afternoon visit, though the views from the top still aren't bad at all. If you want to catch sunrise, unless you have a car, you may have to stay overnight in Seongsan, rather than hope to catch a bus from Jeju City or Seogwipo. The peak is at the easternmost edge of Jeju Island, and rises about 90m high. The walk up takes about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic...There were tons of tour groups and students when I went in May 2006. At the bottom of the crater, many people were just sitting on the sloping lawns, picnicking and enjoying the spring weather. Of course, that season also meant flowers were blooming nearby and the inner crater was green with grass and vegetation. At the...

Mt Halla

by Tom_Fields

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to hike up this peak, which dominates Jeju-do. It stands at 1,950 meters (over 6,000 feet above sea level), making it the tallest peak in South Korea. The view from the top must be awesome. Of course, it's visible from all over the island.

Hyeopjae Cave

by Tom_Fields

This is a very unusual lava tube cave, similar to those found in northern California (see my tips on the Lave Beds National Monument). As the molten lava cooled on top, some lava continued to flow beneath the surface (where it remained hotter). Gradually, that lava underneath hollowed out these cavities, which became covered with the cooler rock above. The result is these strange, tubular caves.

Jeongbong Waterfall

by afowles

Down near Seogwipo (the south side of the island), a little to the east, is the Jeonbong Waterfall. You have to pay 2,000 won to enter the site, which takes you down a long flight of steps and over some rocks. The walk itself is nice. Then the waterfall, rolling off a high cliff, meets you with its roar.Legend has it that some Chinese adventurer came to the island seeking peace and enlightenment and, not finding it, carved his name into the rock. It's worth a look.

Mysterious Road

by snuggie

The mysterious road is about 7km from Jeju international airport and was called "Mysterious Road" because so named because a car in neutral will appear to roll uphill rather than down.It was first discovered in 1980 by a taxi driver who was giving a driving tour to the newlywed couple.Today,it is visited by many tourist who want to experience the unusual natural force. There are also many empty bottles along the road, try it,the bottle will roll upward instead of downward. Or try running upward the road, you will find it easier than running downward.

Oedolgae

by snuggie

This solitary basalt formation is called Oedolgae. It was formed as a result of a valcanic activity.During the Koryeo dynasty (918-1392), General Choe-Yeong was on jeju to suppress the Mongols who has occupied the island from 1218,the Mongol forces made their final and fatal stand on Beomseom (Tiger Island) which is seaward form Oedolgae.Another name of Oedolgae, General rock, come from an legend that General Choe-Yeong disguised the rock to appear like a giant military general and the mongols took it as a well established battle lines. They were so terrified that they committed suicide. It is also called Namju haegeumgang because the Oedolgae stands in Goseok harbor which is surrounded by screen like jagged cliffes. This is also the filming location of Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace) which in In episodes 30 & 31, Dae Jang Geum stands alone on a precipice looking out to the sea in firm...

Cheonjiyeon Waterfalls

by snuggie

Cheonjiyeon waterfall is one of the three most famous waterfalls on Jeju Island. It is 22m in height,12m in width and cascades down the cliffs facing into a 20m deep pond. The area is lighted at night, making it a romantic escape for lovers. The night lights also highlight a "hidden" face in the cliffs which can be difficult to see during the day, unless the light is just right.

Dragon Head Rock's Seafood

by snuggie

A short trail has been carved along the cliffs ,do be careful of the uneven trail. Along the trails, there are several old ladies selling fresh seafood in the area and the seafood are really very tasty & fresh.
