    Road Signs in Cheju

by bpacker Updated Apr 28, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Signs for tourist sites are written in three languages (English, Chinese, Korean )in Cheju and other parts of South Korea. Also, the whole of Cheju is divided into clearly maked expressways and roads. So it's pretty easy to drive around here. Just take note that the signs for minor roads are only written in Hangul though, so ask for directions in broken Korean if you have to..

Chejudo island, one of the nine provinces of Korea, is only an hour's fligt south of Seoul and less than that from Pusan or Taegu. There are also direct flights from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka.

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines serve the domestic flight network linking Korea's 11 major cities. Flight time to any of these destinations is approximately one hour.

    Information Reservations :
    Korean Air : Telephone. 1588-2001

    Just fly there

Korean Air and Asiana are both flying a few times a day to Jeju Island. They are either taking off from Incheon or more likely from the former International Airport Gimpo. The flight time is about an hour.

The Airport is located in Jeju City.

Unless renting a car works, one of the ways to get around Jeju island is to hire a taxi for a day. Especially if you have a party with four people, the cost can be split up and is not unreasonable. Make sure you bargain wth the taxi driver to get a good rate. I cant remember exactly how much we paid, but it wasnt unreasonable for the day.

    Rent a car!

My wife and I were going around by bus and taxi. It was an adventure to find the busses and taxis were a rip-off. And she is native korean! Now you can imagine how hard it is as a backpacker!

That's why I recomend to rent a car. Traffic is not that bad and you are way more flexible to go round the island.
