Jeju-do Warnings and Dangers

  • Extra parking charges

When driving in Jeju, read the cark park charges carefully especially at the airport and the city. The carpark attendant charged us an extra 1000 won at the airport and 500 won at the cark park near the hotel. At the airport, we did not even realize till the nice car rental assistant approach the attendant when he saw we were being charged extra....

  • half tanned, half untanned

this sounds a bit silly again though, when you are gonna be under the sun for long, don't forget to take off your sunglasses, or cap from time to time to make things even. I wore my sunglasses at all times, not realizing what was gonna happen, and now I am half tanned on my face. Looks quite funny.. hmm. watch out!

The combination was lethal. Well, the good news is, once I...

  • Go there early in the morning!

If you plan to walk up to Hallasan Mountain go there very early. First of all, the air is much better in the morning. Real fresh and therefore a great climate to hike. Secondly, there are always a bunch of school kids up the mountain in the afternoon. And it's kind of annoying to hike in a traffic jam.

  • Sunscreen and Sufficient Time for...

When we left the base of Mount Hallasan, it was raining and very early. I think we expected the climb to be strenuous at points, but we did not expect to encounter sunburn after we climbed above the clouds. We also did not expect to be gone for so long and did not bring sufficient food. Hopefully, you can avoid all of these things with better...

  • Language

Jeju-do is not made for backpackers. People barely speak english and the signs and other stuff are just written in Hangul. Which means without a korean speaking travelmate, your pretty ***ed. Maybe since the World Cup that changed a bit. My next trip to Jeju-do is going to be in October 2004 and I'm really curious if I can see a difference.
