Dak Galbi, A Gangwon Province Specialty is spicy stir-fried chicken with vegetables. Dakgalbi is prepared by marinating chopped chicken in spicy red pepper paste with peppery seasoning for about one day. Cabbage, green onions, sweet potatoes, and cylinder shaped rice cakes are then added and the ingredients are all placed in a large cast iron pan. The mixture is then typically stir-fried at the table. For years, the Chuncheon region has been well known for its many poultry farms, one of the reasons for dakgalbi’s popularity.

Favorite Dish: What else but the Dak Galbi! The Order costs 8,000 won with assorted Free Kimchi Included.
All Restaurant in Nami Island and most restaurants in Chuncheon City Offer this Ganwon Province Specialty!

Dalkgalbi Street

I'm not the first person to write about this street and I'm sure I won't be the last. There are actually two "Dalkalbi Streets" in Chuncheon - one near the bus terminal and the more popular one downtown. It's the latter that I am recommending.

Almost anyone in town can point you in the direction and it's quite easy to find even though it's a tiny little alley. Just go to the 5-way intersection near city hall and the pedestrian shopping arcade. The alley is located just up a bit from the intersection.

When you get there, just pick a place. All of the owners will be outside touting their shop, but they are basically all the same. Some even have advertisements and billboards showing still shots from TV features.

Favorite Dish: This is my favorite Korean dish, but you can't go by yourself - it's at least a 2-person meal. So if you are a solo traveller, you might be out of luck. If I lived in town, I'd go with you anytime, but it's a little too far for me to travel just for a meal.

The metropolis of Chuncheon

For me, going to Chuncheon is about as long of a trip as I can make in Korea. That would probably explain why this is the last of the provincial capitals I have made it to. I can't really give much...
