Like what I've Said, local small korean restaurants specializes in one type of meal plus just a few of other choices, this korean restaurant (I can't read the name since it is in Hangul) specializes in Sokcho city food which is fried mackarel and the Sundubu (uncurdled bean curd) hence you can see it at the pictures below. The Mackarel was not that salty and the bean curd was sort of bland.
Favorite Dish: what else but the mackarel and the sundubu, the price here is 15,000 won per order (including the rice and free kimchi)
this kind of korean restaurants are available everywhere but you have to have a korean interpreter since they don't speak english (unlike in bigger, tourist oriented restaurants)

the food is no that spectacular, the cafe is open 24 hours and caters primarily to foreign guest since most koreans just cook their meals at the hotel rooms.
Favorite Dish: well not much since the breakfast buffett was included in our package so We've just eaten bacon, eggs, rice, sausages, some korean porridge and some kimchi. the meals were just average.

Just before you reach the entrance of Mt Sorak National Park on the other side of Cheongbong bridge and Seorak bridge, there is a row of shophouses which serve local Korean dishes, which are mianly kimchi and hot meat cooked over a huge pan. You can have your meals here along the way to Mt Sorak National Park. Next the shophouses is a hotel shaped like a windmill (see photo) which you might consider staying in for your Mt Sorak trip.

When was the last time you tasted really good mushrooms? Now if you're really a mushroom lover like me, try not to give this Korean mushroom a miss. Though not as delicate as the Enoki, nor as succulent as the ***ake, the Pine mushroom has a musky , woody flavour that will tentalise your tastebuds. I tried the pine mushroom broth after a long, long bath and it tasted really good. Try the pine mushroom noodles too, it's equally delicious but the strands will distract you from the mushroomy flavour...
Favorite Dish: The restaurant owner was the first and only man who identified us as Singaporeans. Smart chap, he identified us thru' the Lonely Planet Book in English.
(HongKongers and Singaporeans are the only Asians in this region to speak and read fluent English).

Somehow, the Pee-Bim-Bap taste better in Osaek than anywhere else in Korea. Maybe the fresh and succulent mountain herbs and vegetables added to my biased opinion. Or the fact that I am semi-vegetarian. Whatever it is, this is one of best vegetable dishes I've ever tasted in my life. The vegetables are slightly crisp and sweet to the taste. As for the broth, you'll find soft pieces of beancurd floating in a steamy-hot fermented bean-paste soup. The kim-chi was excellent too, it's crisp, sweet and alchoholic at the same as it has been fermented for a long time in earthern pots in winter.
