Mount Soraksan National Park & Sokcho

Perhaps the most famous place in Kangwon-do province of South Korea is Mount Soraksan National Park. This national park consists of sharp mountains, forest and several buddhist temples, waterfalls etc and it is very popular with both locals as well as tourists. Near to Mount Soraksan is a nice fishing town called Sokcho which is worth a visit for its attractions and seafood, especially eating the squid.

Beautiful mountains

The mountains and surrounding landscape are very beautiful all year around. In winter, you can go skiing and there are also opportunities to do some simple trekking during the warmer seasons. More photos are at the travelogue section of my VT page.

Filming of "Endless Love"

Part of the famous Korean mini series "Endless Love" was actually film at Phoenix Park Resort, including a room at the condominium which is a tourist attraction. More photos of the room and filming sites are at the travelogue section of this VT page.

Skiing

The main attraction of Phoenix Park is that it is one of the biggest skiing resort in South Korea where many people flock here every winter. If you want to stay here during winter, you must book way in advance. More information on the skiing slopes are at the webpage below. I visited during autumn, so it was not very crowded then :)

Sokcho lighthouse

is located downtown near the raw fish market.. unfortunately i couldn't actually get inside the observatory.. I couldn't understand--- either now someone is living there.. or you can't go in because they are renovating it...

view of the gaudy expensive ship on top of the mountain! very strange sight!...I enquired about rooms... they started at 80 000won (about 80US$) for sunday to Thursday, and starting at 140000won during the off season weekends

The observatory shop offers a lot of korean food and drink-specialities, spices,vitamins etc.Especially sought-after are Ginseng-preparations and -drinks, said to increase sexual potency.
