North Korean submarines have been spotted and/or captured a few different times in the last few years, in this area.
Which is why it's not permitted to do night-diving along South Korea's east coast.

You don't want to be mistaken for a submarine or North Korean infiltrator, and depth-charged or shot at by the navy.
