    Suwon city, South Korea

Favorite thing: Besides restricting yourself to tourist attractions, it will be good to walk around and experience the city of Suwon which is generally very safe. More photographs of the city are at the travelogue section of this VT page.

  • Tourist information in Suwon

    by mke1963 Written Feb 6, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Suwon’s tourism people have really got their act together, and provide numerous brochures and literature on the town’s sites and sights, and operate a tour bus twice daily. Their hard work and the quality of maps and brochures, and the informative signboards everywhere (all translated into English, Japanese and Chinese) sets a benchmark for tourism authorities globally. The town ahs started using the tagline “Happy Suwon” and for once, such a phrase seems entirely appropriate and meaningful.
The main tourism office is by the railway station: immediately to the north of the station building by the bus-park. The staff are incredibly helpful and even walked us to the taxi stand to tell the driver where we wanted to go after we had just missed the free shuttle bus to the folk village.
This tourist office also sells an excellent book showing 3-D maps of the whole of Gyeonggi-do province: a brilliant find that will make planning future holidays here easier. They also sell a picture book of the fortress which is somewhat less compelling: it has some very odd montage photographs, very little information about the fortress and some appalling spelling mistakes – as in China, publishes would do well to pay an editor or proofreader a couple of hundred dollars to avoid the unfortunate result of utterly nonsensical text.

Getting all the information booklets that Suwon Tourist Authority offer will make a huge, positive difference to your visit!

Fondest memory: If you go to the Fortress from Suwon Station, at first make for the Paldalmun ( Bus No 11,13, 36, 39 ). and turn to the left, go up a long flight of steps to mountain. in my experience, the time required about 4hour for take a round in the Fortress.

    Korean Folk Village

by jaam Updated Jan 16, 2003
    nicest friends.........

Favorite thing: Never miss a visit to the Korean Folk Village. It is a reproduction village constructed on a site 990 square kilometers large, it will give you an accurate understanding of daily life and customs of the old Korea. A very informative experience.

Fondest memory: The stay with my friend's friend home was an enriching experience. I am lucky to have Chae Hyun and Eong Jun to show me a look into their day to day life in a korean household in Suwon. My perception of living here in the states totally turned upside down!
Thank you dear girls and I hope you won't mind it so much that I took the liberty to introduce you here at VT......

    Local people of Suwon, Korea

Favorite thing: One of my good memories about Suwon is being able to take some good photographs of the local people. The people here are generally more laid back as compared to Seoul, but language is a big problem.
