It has been damaged and repaired many times over the last centuries, but is in great condition and is home to several Korean historical treasures and artifacts.

There's not much to do here during the day, other than dive, eat, fish, or sit on the beach.
Why not go for a walk along the seawall? I was thirsty, so I figured I'd look for a small store.
There's no fence and it's narrow at the top, but is nice to walk along.
With the road on one side, and the long drop to the beach on the other, you sure don't want to misstep.
The locals like to sit on top and fish, and were surprised to see me come walking along. Everyone was friendly, say hello. :) They were even friendlier on the walk back, passing them again with my bag of store goodies.
You'll also see a fortification point every couple hundred meters, for the army/navy to mount a machine gun for beach defence.

Being from the west coast of Canada, I've always equated the sea with sunset.
Even when I've travelled, luck would almost always have me placed somewhere where I could watch the sun set over the ocean, instead of rise.
We arrived here very early (or late?) and got to the beach just before the sun rose.
Everyone went to bed, and I instead climbed a big rock and watched the sun come up.
Beautiful!

Seongnyugul limestone cave is maybe 250 million years old. Its name was originally recorded during the Silla Kingdom. It is about 500m long, and has a dozen water pools.
Having visited many caves, I agree that the formations in this one are among the best I've seen.
A historical tragedy occurred here during the 1592 invasion of Japan. Approximately 500 local Koreans fled into the cave to avoid the Japanese soldiers. The Japanese army found them and blockaded them inside.

We never truly understood why the tourist board calls Uljin "The Land of Life". But we do know that it is famous for the crab fishing off the coasts and the nearby SBS television coastal set.
