BEOMEOSA TEMPLE,Busan

by manil51

Located at the east foot of Busan's guardian mountain Geumjeongsan, Beomeosa Temple was founded by the Great Priest Euisang in 678. Beomeosa Temple is counted as one of Korea's five great Buddhist temples and thus has an abundance of cultural and historical assets. The scenic beauty of this temple and the valley overgrown with wisteria attracts a crowd of local and foreign visitors as one of Busan's representative attractions.

JAGALCHI FISH MARKET

by manil51

The market runs between Ch'ungmu-dong and Namp'o-dong, right next to Pusan Harbor. It actually has two main sections: one for fresh seafood, another for dried seafood. The name of the area comes from Jagal (small rocks) and ch'i (a pure Korean word describing villages next to the seashore). Originally, the area had many small rocks. In modern times, a wharf has been built and much of the area is concrete and lined with buildings, so no trace of the namesake remains. Every year, the Jagalchi Festival celebrates the area and its products. The western setion of the market mainly deals with live and freshly caught seafood. Fish and shellfish are caught daily and sold fresh to consumers, almost right off the boat. The area is lined with tanks containing all sorts of fish, eels, squid, shellfish, and mollusks. Some areas have workers preparing the seafood for long term storage. You can watch...

Take a hike - Ulsanbawi (Seoraksan National Park)

by ant1606

Seoraksan is probably the most visited out of Korean National Parks. It's located in the country's Northeast near the coastal city of Sokcho and I visited in early December 2004 along with my Korean colleagues. We comfortably stayed at Hotel Kensington located right before the park gate. Temperature was pretty acceptable and we decided to go up to Ulsanbawi (Rock from Ulsan) on a Saturday. Peak elevation is some 870 m (about 3,000 ft) above seal level and to an experienced hiker it would require some 3 hours for the round-trip. Vertical drop might be around 700 m, of which an estimated 300 m are climbed through a steel staircase with rails. Recommendable, though not strictly necessary, are proper mountain boots. It's also recommendable to choose weekdays to avoid hundreds of people on your way. Screaming children and even suite-and-necktie are not uncommon, despite a good number of...

Take a hike - Bukhansan

by ant1606

You don't need to be a skilled hiking enthusiast to take a 2-hour round trip walk in the mountains. Going to Bukhansan could be a good idea. Located in the north outskirts of Seoul, this National Park is home to a micro "Great Wall". Nothing to compare to the unique Chinese marvel, but certainly worth the walk along the trail that will take you to the summit. Bottom-to-top elevation is about 500 meters. Water and snacks with you are always recommended, as well as proper shoes/boots.

Sajik Park

by heina

This park is located in the opposite direction of Gyeonbokgung Palace, it's up the street about 10 min or so (not even) and it's a perfect place to go if you want to have lunch or play some soccer with a cultural backdrop, it's fairly quiet (the trees block out the sound of the traffic) and if going to the palace has made you feel like a sardine then this is the place to go..

Rural villages

by Marianna68

When I was stationed at Camp Carroll, we were right there in Waegon, Village. This is maybe 45 minutes from Taegu. Here you can find women dressed in traditional clothing, at least they were when I was there. The food was great. First time I had ramean (spelling) noodles was at a small resturant in the village and trust me, they tasted better there. I also ate Kimchi, which is very spicey and lots of other native foods.
