Seonunsa Temple - The interior

by MEdelmann

Each temple has its Buddha statue where the people come and pray. Seonunsa is no ecept! Believe it or not, but the most Koreans are christians! They are catholic or protestants. I have never seen so many churches than in Seoul! And there are also other religions in Korea, because they "imported" a lot of special clerks which they need in ther special industries. So you can also find Hindus, muslimes and other religions there.

Seonunsa Temple

by MEdelmann

Korea has a lot of wonderful temples. Some of them store great treasures - like Haeinsa temple near Daegu, which stores the biggest collection of buddhist skripts - but most of them are treasures itself. Unfortuneatly I saw only one of them, Seonunsa temple. But it was very nice! Btw, "Sa" means "temple" in korean!Pilgrims come here and pray for themselves and their relatives. Seonunsa temple is a very good example how Koreans temples built.

Shangrila hike

by Christianzagar

I found out about this hike from a guide book written by a foreigner who lived here in Korea. It was the only place where I've been in Korea where I didn't see a soul for hours. It was a nice hike through valleys and farm fields. At the end of the hike there was a little village that was lost in time. Though I didn't see any people around the place was definately lived in. will write more soon to give directions

Chiaksan Mountain

by kenmerk

Chiaksan is located just north of the city of Wonju in Central Korea. It take about 5-6 hours to hike to the top and back or you can just stroll around and enjoy the small shrines at the base of this mountain....

Tip Photo
Kangnung

by kenmerk

Kangnung is a beach town up in the Northeast section of Korea. Just head east from Seoul thorugh Wonju along Route 4. When you seee racks and racks of dried squid hanging up being dried out along the side of the road, you know you're getting close. Nice place to come for an evening full of Seafood and Soju ...

Though not as famous as Japan, Cherry Blossom viewing in the Korean Country side is certainly nice. Get out to one of the many small farming villages, and you can get some nice rustic backdrops for your cherry blossom pictures...

Chung-ju

by kenmerk

What can I say about Chungju, besides the fact that it was my home for about 4 years... Not so much special here, chief entertainment in town is bowling and singing/drinking, and I don't bowl, so you can probably guess how I spent the majority of my free time here....

Tip Photo
Suanbo Hot Springs

by kenmerk

Suanbo is a small hot spring resort town that is about 20 km's south of Chungju in the Chung-Chong-Buk-Do province. Nice little town with all the tourist type trappings. There used to be a small ski resort just north of town. Not sure if it is still there or not...

Tip Photo
Soraksan Mountain

by kenmerk

The nicest mountain area in South Korea is Soraksan, which is in the northeast corner of the country... Since Korea is a four seaon kind of place, you can come to Soraksan year round to enjoy the seasonal outdoor beauty of the countryside... The only nicer mountain scenery on the Korean Peninsula is north of the DMZ.. (and not so easily accessible... )

Dragon Valley

If you find yourself in Korea in the Winter, try skiing in Dragon Valley. Although skiing here is a full contact sport. Perhaps donning some hockey pads prior to hitting the slopes would not be a bad idea...
