Haeundae Beach

Every Sunday during the hot season, foreigners pour out in droves to Haeundae. A few popular activities are frisbee and beach volleyball, and the groups are often looking for newcomers to play. For more information on specifics, or for contact information, check out the web addy below.

Equipment: Remember that it is hot! Dress appropriately and bring lots of sunscreen and water. Waterproof sunscreen is a little tricky to find. Check at many of the cosmetics shops in the main shopping districts. You can often find Nutregena, Vaseline and other North American brands in 30 SPF. If you're a burner, bring stuff from home

Geumjeongsan mountain and wall

Climbing Geumjeongsan (some signs post it as "Kodang-bong"), a 801.5m mountain is a ~4 hour hike.

Along the ridge line and upper plateaus, is the Geumjeong Fortress. 17 kilometers of the old wall on the ridge, with four 'gates' (North, West, South and East) encompass approximately 8sq km. The wall was built to keep possible invations (mainly the Japanese) out of the lands to the north. The wall was built in 1703, and averages between 1.5 and 3m in height.

Equipment: Hiking boots, water and a rain jacket depending on the season.

Haeundae Beach is the nicer beach in Busan. But there are several seperate beaches all along the coast. The waves are not too big so conventional surfing is probably not possible.
At Songjeong Beach, we spotted this windsurfing rental business and the travel brochures suggest this is the watersport of choice.

Mt. JaeYak and Mt. Gaji near Milyang and EonYang

Here is some information about the park and some of the attractions:

The ridge of the 1,240-meter-high Mt. Gajisan runs parallel to the 1,189-meter-high Mt. Cheonhwangsan at the southern tip of the Taebaek Mountain Range.
Mt. Gajisan National Park is regarded as one of the most scenic attractions in the Yeongnam area.

It features peculiar rock formations, picturesque valleys with crystal clear water coursing through, a thickly wooded forest, and scenic waterfalls. Eoreumgol and Seoknamsa Temple can also be seen here, hidden safely away in the forest. The section of the mountain ridge stretching from Ssalbawi Rock to the summit is strewn with various rocks and is very jagged, making for especially fantastic views and a challenging climb.

Mt. Gajisan National Park is divided into three different areas;
the Mt. Gajisan area (Eoreumgol and Seoknamsa Temple), the Tongdosa Temple area, and the Mt. Cheonseongsan area (Naewonsa Temple).

Equipment: Suitable footware and clothes, Camera

cycling, scooters, hiking...

you can rent bikes and scooters...if you dare ride them in this MAD country...use bike paths and the side walks for scooters and bikes if you're nervous.

hiking equipment is everywhere...you don't need it...it's overpriced...just good shoes, a hat and common sense...there are mountains all around you here...enjoy them.

The East Sea off of Busan is full of fish. People are fishing everywhere: in boats or just standing on the seashore, like these guys standing precariously on a rocky islet..

This place seems like a good spot for fishing. Even guys in suit spend their lunchbreak here to catch a fish.
