  • I don't really have a favorite restaurant but a good place for food (& nightlife) in Seoul is Shin'chon. There are many affordable traditional Korean restaurants there and also most Western fast food chains.

My favorite Korean dish is Tak kal bi. Mandu is soup is also very delicious. I also really like Nang Myun (cold noodles) which is really refreshing in the summer time.

Ginser Chicken Soup is my favorite. The soup is cooked with baby chicken (less than 30 days), ginser, silkworm TongChungHaCho, rice, and other herbs. Instead of salt or soy sauce, seasoned it with ginser wine when serving.

KIMCHI. No Korean meal would be complete without kimchi. It is a kind of fermented vegetable preserved in a mixture of salt, red pepper powder and other ingredients. Every resturant serve different taste of Kimchi, interesting although I don't enjoy much.

    Kimchi

also spelled KIMCHEE, spicy, fermented pickle that invariably accompanies a Korean meal.
The vegetables most commonly used in its preparation are celery cabbage, Chinese turnip, and cucumber.
The prepared vegetables are sliced, highly seasoned with red pepper, onion, and garlic, and fermented in brine in large earthenware jars.
Dried and salted shrimp, anchovy paste, and oysters are sometimes used as additional seasonings.
During fermentation, which takes approximately one month depending on weather conditions, the Kimchi jars are stored totally or partially underground in cellars or sheds built expressly for this purpose.

  • For great Kamja-Tang, you have to go to the corner shop across the street and north one block of Young-San station! The place looks divey, but the food is great! Price is around $7.

    KamJa-Tang
--First, you must be willing to eat pork. They take big chunks and cook it with spices and potatoes... you eat it with Korean alchohol (Soju!) Don't do it alone... email me instead!

    BULGOKI
Korean BBQ, you grill the meat at the table in the restaurant. The beef meat has been in a marinade to get the good taste. You grill the meat in the table place it in a cabbage leaf add a garlic clover,
make a roll of it and eat.
Inexpensive and I liked it very much.
Usually consumed with soju (rice wine ~20 % alcohol)
    tastes like finnish koskenkorva.

  • Sam Gae Tang restaurants behind Seoul Plaza Hotel

Koreans believe this soup is very good for health. It is made of whole chicken (a choice of white or black chiken) stuffed with glutinous rice and a whole big ginseng root, steamed together and served with a small glass of korean ginseng liquor. Roast chicken is also served in most Sam Gae Tang restaurants.
