Kimbap food chain: Cheap but good

by izsak02

Our most visited place here are the Kimbap places because food here cost cheap. The most expensive dish they have is only 4,500 Won ($5.50CAN). They have different kinds of Korean food here not just Kimbap. They have soup, fried rice, veggies, seafood stuff and meat stuff. There are also Japanese sushi restaurants and (not so)Chinese restaurants. Fast food chains are also all over the city.Korean (traditional) restaurants offer good food. They cook your meal in front of you... literally. Most are spicy, but usually they're very spicy. And one piece of advise, pick a big table. They'll flood you with an enormous amount of side dishes no matter where you eat.

At every meal...almost...: Typical Korean Food

by ghweeh

I love Korean food and enjoyed everything I ate here. Be the sumptuous barbeque Bulgogi or simple udon soup for breakfast… And in the end, we only ate half of the instant noodle we brought along… It was normally quite late after dinner and we’re too full and tired to eat anything else. But my nephews ate the biscuits we brought along…kids like to munch food… We also found some tasty Korea biscuits, snacks, crackers….ate some and bought back some!! NO, they were good not because we were hungry……it was because they were really tasty.. ;-) Bulgogi ~ the way it was eaten…..barbeque meat with paste and wrapped in a cabbage. This was probably one of Korea’s most famous grilled dishes. Hotplate rice ~ served in a small pot with veggie, egg, rice; and you sort of mixed everything together before you ate themSamggye-tang ~ it’s Ginseng Chicken Soup actually. Ginseng was never a favourite because...

Umm...I don't remember the name..Sorry: You gotta see this!!

by chickiej

This restaurant was not only classy, but it was a great experience. I went with family, so I don't know the name or location. But you'll know it if you see it!The floor was made of glass. Yes, GLASS. And under the glass was a Koi pond. It's a very nice surprise while you're eating if you didn't notice it while you walked in (trust me, I know). The food was amazing. And I think one of the best parts of the restaurant is that they have a tea garden in the back which shares the same koi pond under the restaurant. I LOVED it!!!! I had Nangmien. It's a cold noodle soup usually served during the summers. They offered Bibim Nangiem (spicier and not as much soup) and the Mul Nangmien (more soup. more refreshing. And if you still want the spiciness, just add some Kochijang which is a pepper paste or yellow mustard which is a sister to wasabi)

Hue - Korean sushi

by melanieinkorea

Koreans eat raw fish and it's a treat. It's called hue, (sounds like hway) and it's very different from Japanese sushi. First of all, you eat the fish on it's own, it isn't garnished with anything and it's not served on rice. You arrive at a restaurant, choose a fish that is swimming in a tank, they scoop it out, cut it up and serve it. You get lots of side dishes with it, including a bowl of rice. You eat the fish on it's own after dipping into hot sauce. It's delicious but perhaps, an aquired taste.

Any restuarant: Don't speak the language - no problem!

by Edith49

Almost every restuarant has a similar sign to indicate what is on their menu. I would just point to what I wanted - it's very easy! If you ask, they will tell you what is spicy and what is not. I am not able to eat a lot of spicy food and although the majority of the food in Korea is spicy and there is always Kim Chi at every restuarant and every meal, I was able to eat well without eating anything too spicy or too hot for my palate.

Western Food

by ant1606

There is an impressive number of restaurants in Korean cities. It's hard not to see one in sight. Although Korean food is obviously the most present, western food is available and expanding especially in Seoul.Along with chic restaurants and steak houses, a consistent amount of fast-food points is growing everywhere. Some locals are concerned about the nutrition qualities of western style fast-food. This is no news for westerners as well. Some perceive the spread of fast-food as an increasing contamination of Korean traditions. Needless to say, Korean youngsters seem to love the juicy bun.

Korean Barbecue: Happiness is a Korean Barbecue

by salisbury3933

Eating barbecue is an absolute must do for me anytime I visit Korea.Absolutely fantastic meat, and I like the various sauces, kimchi, and vege dishes that are brought out. With a few beers as well, I am indeed a happy man.

Did you say it's spicy hot?

by ant1606

Korean food is simply delicious and, yes, it can be very spicy hot. If the color of your dish is bright red, be prepared.Red hot chili pepper can be bought at retail grocery stores where shelves display huge boxes which size reminds of wholesale quantities. Largest box I've seen was 14 Kg (31 lb.) and this rings a bell.

Shabu-Shabu

by ant1606

This is a very tasty dish that every visitor (except vegetarians) should try while in Korea. It was originated in Mongolia but Koreans most likely added their own style to it.A large pot with broth is being put on a heater in the middle of the table, and "charged" with various ingredients. First come the vegetables, which are a mix of various kinds and a few types of mushrooms. After some cooking it's time to start sharing, meanwhile the thinly sliced beef meat is brought to the table and added to the pot. Time again to share. Last addition is noodles but it could be rice upon request. Noodles are probably to be preferred as steamed rice is already on the table to accompany the shabu-shabu.The final stage of noodles is simply delicious, as they collect the flavors of all previous ingredients. Nevertheless, quantity of food is always excessive but too delicious to make someone wanting to...
