Dan Gol Kalbi: Delicious Korean Barbecue

by MacPac

I love this restaurant. Everytime we go to Korea we eat there several times. Remove your shoes and leave them at the door. You'll be taken into a sem-private room and sit on the floor. There is a little grill built into the table and the waitress will bring in the super hot coals to put in and you'll cook the meat to your own liking, but the waitress can assist. It is clean and American friendly. Accessable from Osan Air Base by taxi or 1-1 Bus for USAF personnel. We always order the Taeji Kalbi (pork kalbi) it has a great taste. I love beef kalbi too, but the pork just has a more tangy flavor to it. The side dishes are numerous and delicious.

the Wood and Brick Restaurant.: Unbelievable European Cuisine!

by Hmmmm

The Wood and Brick is a fine little eatery located in downtown Seoul near the Kwanghwamun intersection. To the northwest is the Sejong Cultural Center; to the east is the Kyobo Building. Also another has opened up in Hongik area ( I went there with my Girlfriend too, wicked decor). Get into the Lobster Ravioli, served with a selection of fresh bread and pickles. They served a reasonable Australian red from Wyndham Estates. Also Try the Proscuitto i Melone, and my favourite (being a Kiwi) the Costolette d'Agnello all' Aglio y Rosmarino (the Lamb Rib Chops with garlic and Rosemary) Oh Good god its good! I drank a munty Hunter Valley Bin 444 with that. The atmosphere was wonderful. It should simply be said, go forth with your belly empty and partake of the nirvana that awaits. It should also be said take along your wallet, for though it is not over-priced, it is not cheap.

Mapo Kalbi, in Apgujeong, Cheap and Fantastic!: Don't Miss Good Kalbi

by Hmmmm

The Restaurant itselt is a Typical Kalbi (Korean Broil/BBQ) Restaurant. On the Left are western style tables and on the Right are Traditional Korean Style table where one sits on the Floor at a Small table.Kalbi is essentially, Rib meat that you cook in front of you, and eat with various Pan jan (side dishes) and Saeng Chu (lettuce) and of course Kim Ch'i (pickled spicy cabbage).Kalbi is An Ju (which means food you drink Alcohol with). When eating kalbi there are a few things to consider. First Beef or Pork. At Mapo Kalbi eat beef. Delicious. Order Kalbi Sal (chop rib meat) or I dong Kalbi which is an Intact rib dong in a marinade from the town of I Dong in Gyonggi Do. Fantastic. Best washed down with San Sa Chon (a kinda rice and herbal liquor) or Chon Guk which is similar but different. You can order pork, but its better to do that at a specialist Pork BBQ restaurant.

Jool Byong Bu Dae Chiggae. Shinchon. Seoul.: Bu Dae Chiggae (Soldier's Stew) SO YUMMY

by Hmmmm

This restaurant is very basic. A round steel table, and a hotplate in the middle. But it is very much Korean style. This place is famous, it was even in the Korean Movie (Yopki Jokoun Gonyeo)...Don't go alone, take a few friends with you. Order extra sausage, Ramyeon (Ramen/Mien) and a slice of cheese, and loads of beer because this dish is quite spicy. This dish came from the Korean war around 1950. When korea was ravaged by war and there was nothing to eat. The koreans used to raid the Soldiers rubbish heaps, rescuing half used cans of spam, baked beans, sausages, bacon etc etc. A good amount of this food was rancid, so it was cooked Kimch'i jigae style (in hot chili pepper paste with spicy kimch'i and other korean vegetables)..Today this dish is much improved and is still a korean favourite. I absolutely love it. try it.

Kimchi

by nepalgoods

Korean food is very hot and has a lot of garlic in it. I did not like the Kimchi so much. That is cabbage preserved with garlic and chilies. (Please correct me, when I am not right!).You get Kimchi with just everything you order in Korea. There are different types of Kimchi, some have little fishes in it. Or it consists of other preserved vegetables. A row of Kimchi pots is the pride of every Korean housewife. I did not know the language, so I used to point on the menue to order something. But then I often got some kind of soup with bones and a lot of meat. I don't like to eat a lot of meat. I was very happy, when I found out, that 'bap' means rice, and that 'BeBimBap' is a very nice dish of rice, vegetables, egg and only a little bit of meat. So I often ate BeBimBap or other dishes which name ends with Bap.

All Restaurants In Korea: Kimchi With Everything

by n_a_drescher

Kimchi, Korea's national dish, consists of fermented cabbage and radish in a spicy red sauce. It is served cold with breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, etc. It is actually quite tasty, but can wreak havoc on the virgin digestive system (ie: you will be running to the bathroom). Of course, this is true of most Korean dishes. Kimchi is every Korean's favourite food.

All Restaurants In Korea: Avoid The Seafood!

by n_a_drescher

Korea's waters are heavily polluted and its fishing industry is not well regulated, so most of the seafood is unsafe to eat for the sensitive western stomach.Even if the waters were clean, traditional Korean seafood is cooked in a wholly unappetizing way. 1. Shellfish are served unshelled. Shrimp comes whole, eyes, legs, egs, shell, and all.2. Fish comes whole, and is not filleted, and in many cases is not cooked all the way through. Some fish dishes come with the fish still squirming around on your plate!3. Everything in Korea is cooked with a spicy red-pepper paste, and this doesn't match well with most seafood.4. Seafood soups consist of a bunch of unshelled shrimp, uncooked fish, and whole mussels bubbling around in a thick brown broth. A safe rule of thumb is to simply avoid ALL seafood dishes.

Korean Dining

by kenmerk

Korean food is actually quite good. Typical Korean restaurants are sit on the floor, eat with sticks, with many, many side dishes (including the obligatory Kimchi) kind of places. If you like spicy food, this is the place for you... Daeng-jang-chi-gae is great, and if you really want light your mouth on fire, try the tak-tori-tang.... It is smoking...

Any resteraunt.: Try everything at least once!

by LetsGetDrunkHere

If you don't know anything about Korea or its food, just get a menu and point. At most resteraunts they'll bring out tons of plates and bowls with different meats, vegitables, and what not. If its meat, don't ask what it is until after you tried it. Of course, try the kimchi! (But bring some minty gum). Yakimandu is my favorite korean food. One time I got really drunk at the OB Stadium (all you can eat and drink, beef and beer!!!). The next day I woke up with yakimandu in my pocket.

A strip of resturants in the...

by genome408

A strip of resturants in the Shinchon district. These resturants are dubbed Suh Suh Kal Bi, literally meaning 'standing up kalbi'.First time went to one of these places, I realized this wasn't San Francisco. The place did not have a front door, nor even a front wall. It was one of those roll down metal walls usually reserved to protect store front windows during the night and the ocassional riot. The place had dirt floors, no chairs (thus the name, 'standing kalbi') and just five 'tables' These tables were just steel barrels modified to hold some charcoal and grill and a rim around the top to the barrel to hold some glasses and plates. Well obiviously, you don't go here for the decor, so getting right to the important issue, the kalbi. GOOD LORD the kalbi is good. I like to consider myself a connoisseur of kalbi. I've been to a few of the places in this 'standing kalbi' district and...
