The annual Seoul Drum Festival last weekend (8 -10 October 2004) was a free display of many different styles and cultural drum performances. Each set lasted about 20 minutes and each session lasted from 6pm to 9.30pm. The weather was perfect and the performers generally put on a great show. Outstanding were the Korean and Japanese groups on the Saturday and Sunday evenings (I missed the Friday show).
The festival was capped with a fireworks display, right in the middle of the city buildings !!
Fondest memory: Sitting on the grass with a picnic blanket, some beer and wine, snacks and my Korean friends enjoying the drum performances in front of city hall - fantastic !
Every now and again you wander around a corner and see a big-old parade. The funny thing is that you never know when they are in Seoul.
This show of might was on Korean Army Day.
