After your hike up the hill (see Directions) you'll descend into the Noise Basement. Cover is 20,000 won (USD 17.50) for guys, 10,000 for ladies (both get 2 drink tickets). Lockers are available for 4,000 + 2,000 deposit. Drinks are well-priced. Beer (Bud) is 5,000, hiballs about 6-8,000. Water is relatively cheap (2,000 won). The flavor is definately hip-hop (if you're not into thumpin beats, stay away). Many here are Gyopos (Koreans born/raised outside of Korea, esp. US) and a few foreigners (like me). Once you get it in it's like a pitch black (small) room. The door opens almost onto the dance floor. It's crazy crowded. On either side of the room are raised table areas, the bar is in the back and the dancefloor is in the middle (there is a steel railing around it, which is pretty interesting). We got there at about 10pm; it starts to thin out at 4am, and goes until 8am (I guess, we never made it that long). The bathroom was like a swamp (the one downside) but it's just water and cigarette ash (could have been worse). If you have a propensity to sweat have fun. The a/c is limited here (coolest spots are near the door, under a fan, next to the a/c and in the hall to the bathrooms). It is hot!
It's a bloody cave, so pretty much anything clubby goes here. (UV lights bring out the white.) Lots of girls wear white tips (midriff exposed) and some guys have NBA jerseys on. A sign says "NO Entry to Foreign Soldiers" but I came with a couple and saw others in there. Just look presentable and be nice. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: Near Kangnam Station (Line 2)Directions: From Kangnam Station (Line 2) head north to the McDonald's (should be across from Teenie Weenie's (clothing store) on Kangnam-daero. Turn right, then left then head up the STEEP hill (an extreme right, at 7-11). Ask around if you get lost.Website: www.clubnb.com Other Contact: Check out vids, pic and music!

 | | | | Aggressive Entertainment: Bring a Full Wallet | Tip Rating: | | | | |
If you're in for a little craziness (read: sex) and have more money than brains, this is the place for you. First went here thinking it was a bar. Wondered why the waitresses were looking at the gal in our group so oddly...oh, they are not waitresses, they are 'room salon' girls (aka hookers, depending on your expense account limit). As you may know, R.S. girls often roam the local bars ensnaring wei-gook-in (foreigners) to come to their lair (such as On Y Va) where the real selling takes place. They ply them with drinks and shots, games of pool, noraebang (karaoke, but don't say the Japanese word in Korea) and generally stunning great looks in order to rack up a massive tab. Could cost 2,000,000 won (USD 1,700) for a few hours here with a small group. (Of course the trick here is to set boundaries as to protocol and total bill amount in the beginning, but most can't think that far ahead.)
Since you have the money, you make the dress code. The gals will have skin-tight clothing on, but you're not expected to do the same. Leave a Comment Theme: Adult SpotAddress: 123-26 Iteawon-Dong, Yongsan-GuPhone: 02-795-0866Directions: From Itaewon Station (Line 6) and facing the Hamilton Hotel, go right (and on the left hand side of the street). It's on the second floor about a block down.

 | | | | Hip Hop/Clubs: Best in the Morning | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Ah, the LimeLight. Don't bother coming here during the week or before 1AM, but from 2AM to 6AM this place rocks! Drinks are ok priced, there is a 10,000 won cover, but you get a 5,000 won drink ticket. Music is all Western dance and after a few times you start to notice the ones that EVERYONE gets up and dances too. People there are: GIs (only til like midnight cuz of curfew--hence go there later), English teachers and other expats and LOTS of Korean gals (not hookers, which is nice) many of whom speak a ton of English.
Anything but ripped jeans. I've seen jeans, suits, a few skirts...it's real dark in there so it' not quite a fashion show. They have a coatcheck at the door for 2,000 won...if you have a Korean with you (esp. female) or feel strong you can tell them to take all 3-4 coats into one bin for 2,000 total. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: Under the Hamilton Hotel, ItaewonDirections: Right at Itaewon subway...there is an entrance that goes immediately downstairs....located right in front of the Hamilton Hotel--can't miss it.Website: http://www.lifeinkorea.com/Travel2/10 Other Contact: see site for history of Itaewon.

 | | | | Hip Hop/Clubs: University District Bar | Tip Rating: | | | | |
This little gem is tucked away near Hong-Ik University (called Hong-Dae, or if you take a cab say "Hong Dae ip-gu"). The thing about it is it has ALL the Western music you can dream up. It is also smaller (6 booths, a bar, a long table off the dancefloor and 5 little tables) so if you go as a group you can really take over the place. As well, all the booths are right on the dance floor so mixing and mingleing is not a problem. For you guys...there are usually 2-4 tables full of just ladies (just there to dance, not hookers, thankfully) and there is not the cliqueiness of some clubs. Ladies...if you don't want to be asked to dance a lot have at least one man in your group.
Anything goes...school/casual, suits, whatever (most are in jeans or chinos, no partydresses ever seen). Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: This is tough. See below.Directions: The street is broad and has parking down the middle of it--right in "Hong Dae" area. Best way is just to ask around on the street, it has been around long enough to be known.

 | | | | Western Bars and Hofs (Korean Bars): To Puck or Not to Puck... | Tip Rating: | | | | |
This is a hof (local name for a pub, Korean style, derived from the German: Hoffbrau) that looks Korean (lots of Koreans there, small place, dark, food on menu all in Hangul) but the music (a pleasent surprise) is 90s and 00s hip hop and rock. A pretty cool combination. The food is ok, there are tons of imported beer and (interesting little drink, served in a teapot) oh-ee (or cucumber) soju. oh-ee soju is just as powerful as the regular stuff, but has a unique cucumber/pickley taste to it...give it a try. You can also order lemon soju by the pitcher.
Anything...even six 6x (saw a child in there with his parents...something you don't see everywhere). Leave a Comment Theme: Adult SpotAddress: see belowDirections: Off at Hannam Station (KRN Line 1) you have one road to walk down from the exit. When that road (more of an alley) intersects a 'real' road take a right, at the intersection take a left, on the right hand side, second floor is Puck just past Barabar.

 | | | | Noraebangs: Swanky Singing Room in Yeouido | Tip Rating: | | | | |
There are 2 noraebangs (singing rooms/karaoke) in West Yeouido (and these are the only places I know where girls do not come with the place): at the Ben Hur and Dae-ha Noraebang just down the street. Ben Hur is much better. It's got a big screen, horse-shoe seating around a large table and good staff. Prices were a little more than normal (I think it was 30,000 won/27USD for an hour and some beers, but not sure as I didn't pay the tab)--but they were generous with the extra time (called 'service' in Korea), we got about another full hour as a freebie. (Hint: always go to the new places, as this is, because they usually give the most/best service/extras.)
Anything. (line5) and/or take cab to "Lexington Hotel in Yeouido" then don't go to the Lexington, walk behind it 2 streets. It's on the same street as Wa-Bar, about 1/2 way down to the right.Website: http://www.hotelbenhur.com/
