Sinchon University District is an area of Seoul, Korea, that is famous for its shopping and nightlife. It is jam-packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, and clothing stores. Sinchon is at the heart of surrounding universities, such as Yonsei, Ewha, and Sogang which are famed for their International Studies departments. As a result, it has become a hotspot for both Koreans and foreigners to converge on. Sinchon has hundreds of restaurants to choose from, however, as the average Korean, Japanese, and Chinese restaurants are in abundance throughout Korea and are easy for foreigners to find, the following restaurants reflect a sampling of restaurants considered to be either popular or are western-friendly choices and other world cuisines.
Very underrated area in the shadow of the more popular Hongdae. Has some great rock bars like Woodstock, Doors, and Rolling Stones. 3 hookah bars are now in the area, as well. Great wine bars like Red Lion. Fantastic italian places like Visto, Il Primo, La Lieto. Can't forget about Choi's Tacos, too. Overall, great place for those who are put off by Hongdae and Itaewon or just looking for a break from all that.
Sincheon is one of my fav. areas and you can easily walk to ewha. (It's a univerity area) Daytime has got shopping and tons of restaurants, cheap and good sushi! Ewha is currently getting a facelift so it looks like it's going a bit more upscale right now. At night Sincheon keeps going with about a four block square of non-car (seposed to be) streets, bars, hofs and retaurants. An expat favorite is "the bar" and my own person of course is the mushroom bong bar! You'll know it when you see it. Wander around... try out the punchies or your shooting skills. (it's a little like a carnival)
Shichon Rocks. It is eat, drink, and shop central. Its full (I mean chocka) in the weekends so bring your shoulder pads and ankle tappers. But if you don't mind crowds you'll like this area.
In the heart of Sinchon you can find Yonsei University, surrounded by other famous schools such as Ewha Womans University, Sogang University, and Hongik University. You can find everything here, including Sinchon Hyundai Department Store, discount marts, innumerable trendy stores to shop at, and every kind of restaurant and bar that you could imagine. Some other popular hotspots are the noraebang (karaoke rooms), DVD rooms, PC rooms, and plenty of other places where Seoul's youth relax, have fun and check each other out. The streets of Sinchon light up at night with glowing neon signs for night clubs, bars and the noraebang. The main street from Sinchon Station to Yonsei University has become known as Yonsei College Street.
This street is chocka Block of restaurants and bars, side streets with cozy little restaurants, Hyundai Department Store and other surrounding shopping malls, and cool bars, from your all you can drink hofs, to brasseries down to my favourite deep underground skanky bars. Definately Check it out.
