Buses: Airport Limousine

The best option to go to Seoul downtown from Incheon Intl Airport is the Airport Limousine, bus lines linking Incheon to various locations in Seoul downtown.

Aircon buses depart Incheon Intl regularly to many final stops around the city. Tickets can be purchased by W7,000 (US$7,00) / person on the appropriate booths. Bus stops are just outside the arrival hall: just head to gate printed on your ticket and you will find the bus.

  • For me, subway is the best way to go around Seoul. It is very convenient to use (idiot proof ^^) as I have discovered. And all the signs are written both in Hangul and English.

For most places, the fare is 900W to 1000W (as of October 2004).

    Subway: Seoul subway system
  • Tip Rating:
  • Seoul has quite a developed subway system. There are many lines, and it's everywhere. therefore, wherever you wish to go, usually it's there, All you gotta do is to buy a ticket and get it. However, to get the right place, you may have to transfer many lines, and that's not real easy. Usually subway's packed with people.. But anyways..
since you are down here to experience everything as a tourist, being packed in a subway won't be too bad, just for once.. maybe.
The cost is pretty cheap.. can be vary depends on how far you travel... it can cost from about 0.8 $to 2$ maximum.

    Buses: Airport Limousine

  • KAL Limousine airport bus - Seoul
    KAL Limousine airport bus

One of the most thought-after questions after arriving in a new country is "How to get to my hotel?". The answer for Korea: By Airport Limousine, i.e. bus.

After your baggage claim, you will be directed to the Meeter / Greeter Hall. It's a half-moon shaped hall with 16 exit doors that will bring you to the numerous bus stops right in front of the terminal.

Due to the huge number of bus lines serving all kinds of destinations in Seoul and surroundings, I recommend to check the below mentioned website for detailed information.
Buses run from around 5.00am to approx. 10:30pm. Again, check the website for details.

Here is a list of some of the major bus routes:

    No. 601
    - serving Seoul Station and City Hall (via Gimpo Airport)
    - 7,500 KRW
    - take exit door no. 6 or 12 (bus stops at both exits)

    No. 602
    - serving Hapjeong station, Ehwa University and Dongdaemun (via Gimpo Airport)
    - 8,000 KRW
    - take exit no. 5 or 12

    No. 603
    - serving Daerim station, Sillim station, ends at Seoul Nat'l University (via Gimpo Airport)
    - 7,500 KRW
    - take exit no. 6 or 13

    No. 609
    - the fastest way to reach Seoul (no stopover at Gimpo Airport)
    - serving Express Bus Terminal, Kangnam and Yangjae station
    - 8,000 KRW
    - take exit no. 5 or 11

    KAL Limousine
The KAL Limousine is a very luxurious bus that serves all major hotels in Seoul. Check out the destination boards at the bus stop for details.
    - Cost: 13,000 KRW
    - take exit no. 4 or 11

    Alternatively:
On March 23, 2007 the first 40km-segment of the new Airport Express (AREX) railway line, linking Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport in Seoul, started its operation. This is the first real alternative to the airport buses but will probably only be able to seriously compete with them once the second phase (linking Gimpo Airport to Seoul main station) opens in the year 2010.

    Subway: Transport system
  • Tip Rating:
  • For visitors, Seoul's public transportation system is the best option for getting around. Driving yourself is not recommended: Traffic signs are difficult to read, navigation is tricky, and traffic is horrendous. Many areas are accessible by foot, and walking is one of the best ways to get off the beaten track and explore side streets. When crossing the street, only cross at designated crosswalks and always watch for cars, even when you have a green light.

Street Names: The fax city - finding places!
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a difficult city for finding places. Having a map is essential, but if you need to go to a specific address that is not a major hotel or a landmark building or site, you will need a map.
It is best to get the place you are visiting to fax you a map to give to the taxi driver or for arranging your transport on the buses or metro.

    Subway: Getting around in Seoul
  • Tip Rating:
  • For getting around in Seoul the subway (metro or underground) is the quickest and most convient way. It offers a huge network with and good connections. A ticket costs you 600 Won only. But store it good, you will need when you exit the subway because there are barriers at the exits and they only open when you put in your ticket .....

    Subway: The Seoul Metro
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Seoul Metro is one of the world's great metro systems, and it has comprehensive coverage of everywhere except Incheon Airport.
Although you can pretty much anywhere, the immensity of the system is also a bit intimidating. You find yourself staring for a long time at maps and memorizing the end station on each line so you know which way to go.

The ticketing procedure is easy. Above the ticket machines and above the ticket seller's window is a map of the entire system with a number in a circle for each station. Most say 900 because it costs 900 won for most of Seoul. You get a little yellow ticket which you put into the turnstile, pick it up as you go through. At the end of the journey the 'out' turnstile (marked by a small blue light on the turnstile) keeps your ticket.
I assume that you can change at major transfer stations witout losing your ticket into the turnstile!
The trains are quick and clean.
