You May Be Late For Your Meeting

by jburron Written Jan 8, 2005

If you take the Subway you'll know that there are about 2 minutes between wach stop and each transfer takes about 5 minutes, so you can plan your trip pretty well. But, if you go above ground or don't know the route you have a pretty good chance of being late for appointments (some routes take 30 minutes or 3 hours, depending on the time of day/day of the week).

The only advice here is to ask your host to suggest the best route and add extra time on to whatever you decide on as a schedule, take the subway whenever possible and avoid rush-hour. If you show up early you can always have a coffee at one of the many shops all over the place or even partake in a relaxing sauna visit.

Also, you can call your party from any subway (they all have payphone in them...somewhere) or from your cellphone (or even textmessage them, as I have done many a time).

Especially in the snow things can get ugly.

    Motor scooter, pronounced autobai

We live about 85 km. from Seoul and 100 from Hanam Village near Itaewon where many western foods can be found. It can easily take 4 hours by car on a weekend, or 3 by subway. That is for one way. The car costs a bunch of gas and several dollars for the toll gates. We use a motor scooter 99% of the time. In traffic it is much faster. There is always a place to park, and it will only use about 6 bucks worth of gas for the round trip. Okay, so you are not living here. You can rent a scooter at some of the shops by leaving a healthy deposit. You can get around easily in Seoul since the traffic signs are in English as well as Korean. Once you get the feel for the machine you might even head out for places like Anmyeondo, Seodeoksa, or the big open factory outlets in Ichon (not to be confused with Inchon). If you are going to be here for even one week the time and money saved over taxis, buses, subways, will be substantial. If you can ride a bicycle, you can ride a motor scooter. We do all of our grocery shopping on ours..They can carry 4 large bags. Think about that the next time you are in Dongdaemun and have several bags to get back to the hotel.

Heading out from our apt. On the way to Cung Ju Lake. a rest stop

    Ferry to China

I hope to help someone who is ready to board ferry to Tianjin

    1) Is it still possible to do this trip now?
yes, you can book a ticket in JINCHEON FERRY terminal in 2nd Incheonterminal,
    which is next E-Mart
( taxi will take 3000won from DongIncheonsubway station. cabdrivers may confuse your destination, stress that 2nd terminal near E-Mart! )

    2) Is this the cheapest way to travel to china from seoul? My end destination is beijing.
Boarding on Ferry is the cheapestway. you can save around USD200
I recommend this ferry if your are available, very cozy and pleasant !

i understand its another 3 hours train from tiajin. How much is the total cost for the boat ride and also the train ride?
when I traveled in Octover, I remember round ticket cost 240,000won around.
but in ticket cashier accept card for ticket only, tax must be paid in cash.
when ferry approch to Tanggu Harbour( Tianjin harbour ), they begin to sell
bus ticket to Beiging, which is rather cheaper and easy rather than ticketing
    in Harbour.

    3) I am holding a malaysian passport and i need a visa to enter China. Can i do my visa upon arrival at Tiajin border? Regards

There were on board visa before Beiging Olimpic, but I am afraid you cannot get visa still now.
You'd better get China visa in advance.

    Tips for Jincheon Ferry
    1.Prepare some food from Emart.
you can buy snacks and beverage on ferry, but you can buy fruit and another
things in wholesale mart Emart near 2nd Ferry Terminal.
    2.Bring your towels for shower
you can enjoy hot shower, but towel must be prepared.
hot water wait for you 24hours
    3.Domitary ticket bearable.
I booked a 4person bed ticket, but I think it safe and cheaper to buy a
    domitary ticket.
    4.Slipper
if you have, it will make you relax.
    5.Incheon Grand Bridge
Out ot Incheon Harbour, after 2hours cruise, ferry will pass under the Inchen
Grand Bridge which link Incheon airport to mainland.
It have 20km length, and first cross over seashore bridge.
when I passed it, last platporm is under construction, but finally completed
in today of 16th of December!

Hope you enjoy your stay in Beijing.
last thing, I was in Taggu district, but they cannot speak English!
I hope you can understand chinese.

    2) By Bus
