River Rafting in Gangwando

by skootter01

There are only a couple places to go rafting in Korea and this is one of them. It's located in Gangwan province about 1 1/2 hours north east of Seoul. You're best bet to make the arrangements is to have a Korean friend or acqaintance help you out. I can't remember the exact name of the river, but I'll try to find out and update this page. For us, we met in Seoul and took a tour bus up to the river. Going down the river takes about an hour and it really isn't all that rough. Actually, it depends on the time of year. During the rainy season it gets quite rough and is sometimes closed. This picture is one of the rougher sections and wasn't all that bad. Still, by the time you get to the end of the run, there's as many helmets, paddles, and sandals in the water as there are boats. It can be a pretty crowded place so be prepared for a lot of people. We were literally bouncing off of other boats...

A hike through Seonunsa Provincial Park

by MEdelmann

After a 2-hour-walk through the Provincal Park of Seonunsa we came to a very idyllic and peaceful place. Korea a many national parks and provincial parks which invite to go hiking or do other sports. You need good shoes when going hinking. Also the weather can change in mountain areas. So take a rainproof jacket or some other rainproof equipment with you.

Korean traditional houses

by MEdelmann

The area we came was very nice and their were also some interesting houses there, which look very interesting and typical korean. It is interesting to see that the roofs are completely made of wood. I had also some good sunshine and so I could photograh it well.Click on the picture to see the roof better and the other details of this house.
