Buses

by izsak02

For buses, it is best to grab a seat (but give the elderly the priority) or at least hold on tight to the bars. Drivers here seem to forget about the laws of physics. When the bus swerves, stops, or speeds up all of a sudden, passengers tend to become pinballs. There are a lot of buses here that go pretty much everywhere. They are all numbered, but the stops and destination signages are all written in Korean - learn how to read Korean at http://www.learnkoreanlanguage.com/. It's very easy.

Cabs

by izsak02

Around midnight, subways and most buses stop running, but fear not 'cause taxis flood the city at this time. You could choose to pay more with the black cabs or pick a grey/white one with "Free Interpretation" written on the window for a little less. Just hope that the driver understands you, or hope you'll get that "Free Interpretation" thing. It's advisable to ask a Korean friend to write your intersection or name of the place you're going to in Korean to show the cab drivers. There are some reading materials about the safety issue with taxis here. Taking the longer way, robbery, assault. We never had a problem here other than the language barrier. Your call.

Seoul Subway

by izsak02

I like the fact that we could go around almost anywhere in Seoul and Incheon by subway... and the expansion doesn't seem to stop. They have added a lot of stations since we first arrived in March 2006. They've purchased new trains too.The trains are very clean, smells sometimes, heated seats in winter. The subway system is very good. They just don't seem to have consistency with regards to pedestrian pathways. Sometimes the floor arrows and on-ward escalators would be on the left, sometimes they're on the right. No wonder people here get confused if they should be walking on the left or on the right. Of course you know what happens... chaos! People bump into each other all the time like ants. People don't care sometimes, they just bump into you anyway or get in your way. When entering the trains, some people just go in and block the people that are going out... especially during rush...

Coach

The traffic jam could really killed!! For we almost missed our flight back home because we were stucked in the traffic jam. By the time we reached the airport; we face another lonnnggg queue....at the check-in counter and than AGAIN at the customs! We practically have to run to the gate!! So I felt that one should be sure at the airport at least 3 hours before your flight takes off.

In'cheon International Airport

by bladedragon

There are convenient stores inside selling things from tidbits to phonecards. From here you can take airport limousine (actually its a bus) to many places around Seoul. It's just outside the lobby, but you prolly need to ask around for which buses goes where.Check out their website for more info.I also booked a flight from Gimpo Airport Seoul (For domestic flights) to Jeju Island from here.

Busan - Subway

by ant1606

Busan is the second largest city in South Korea, located in the country's southeast coast and facing Japan.Subway is a convenient way transportation to move around town, even faster than by car (or cab) due to surface traffic congestions.Line 1 stops by the train station and, for those willing to reach BEXCO or Haeundae Beach, should be used up to Seomyeon transfer station to board the Line 2 eastbound train.Train cars are generally clean and not too crowded if rush hours can be avoided. Like any other Korean city, Busan subway commuters usually take naps or listen to music or make phone calls. Each station is announced on-board every car through speakers in both Korean and English language.

Incheon Airport - Bus to Seoul

by ant1606

From Incheon Int'l Airport (ICN), a convenient and affordable solution to reach Seoul is by coach, called Limousine in Korea. Cabs can do the job as well, but for a much higher fare which is not balanced to the riding time, which due to heavy city traffic is the same as the bus ride.Several destinations to various parts of Seoul are served by different line numbers. If unfamiliar with the city, get a free map upon arrival at the airport and go to one of the two available bus ticket counters located in the arrivals lobby.Bus to Seoul train station is # 601, costs 7,500 Won (in May 2006) equivalent to about 8 US$ and takes not less than one hour, much more during rush hours.Another option is to take the KAL (Korean Airlines) bus to downtown Seoul stopping at several major hotel locations, for the fare of 13,000 Won.

Airport Limousine Bus

by trek06

The airport Limousine Bus services are excellent. Very comfortabel and affortabel. I took one from Incheon International airport to the Samsung Plaza in Bundang (1 hour) for 14,200 Wan (about 14 US). Just buy a ticket at the Kiosk at the airport, or when returning to the airport, you can pay the driver.

Korea Traffic

by trek06

Korea with it's high population density has a high volume of traffic. However, it all seems to move along even in peak periods. If you can take a direct bus it is usually much faster than the subway, because of the number of stops and routes.

Travel to Heaven! BBC World Service Buddhism

by budapest8

Getting to heaven or achieving Nirvana if your Korean or from elsewhere.Try this simple reference at the Beeb site. 'Buddha' means 'one who has woken up'. Most people live asleep, never knowing or seeing life as it really is. As a consequence they suffer. A buddha is someone who awakens to the knowledge of the world as it truly is and so finds release from suffering.A Buddha teaches out of sympathy and compassion for the suffering of beings and for the benefit and welfare of all beings.Buddhism does not actively look for converts, but it is thoroughly welcoming to those who do want to convert. Buddhism can coexist with other faiths.
