To many cars !!! The legend is when a korean gets a car thay will never walk after that (no car -> no status). In my experience the legend is true. The best way to get around is public transportationbus, train, subway. You can use the taxi's as well but remember that they are usually powered by gas (not gasoline) so they have a gastank in the trunk, and if you have a little bit bigger suitcase it will not fit in the trunk. If you take the bus always take a luxury-bus because they have AC, toilets and so on. If you take the normal bus that don't have the toilets you have to wait for eg. 3 hours to get to the toilet if/when the bus makes a fast stop.

From the North America, fly on Singapore Airlines, you get business class service in Economy, plus your own private TV screen. And, if you make your reservations far enough in advance they always have the best prices!Once in Seoul, use the buses, taxis, or subway system for getting around. Public transportation is very good in Seoul, you can get anywhere you want to! If you go outside of Seoul, take a train. They are fast and you can see a lot of the beautiful Korean country side!

The transport in Seoul was generally very good. The taxi's were the most convenient for me. I was'nt going to take changes with the underground rail system because of the signage (mainly Korean). I have had no bad experiences with the taxi's. Stay away from the Black and Gold taxis they are very expensive.I have also made extensive use of the Seoul City Tour Bus. You must have patience since this is a 2 hour circular route of downtown Seoul. It was worth it though.

Definetly subway. If you take a cab from the airport to downtown Seoul, it will cost you $30-40 Canadian. The subway only cost me 500WON (or approximately .50 cents). Within Seoul itself, it's fairly easy to get around the city by subway. Before leaving your home country, check out the website for the subway and print off an English map. It helped me heaps when I got there. While some stations have signs in English as well, many will be only in Korean. It's easy to count the number of stops if you have the English map.

If you want to go to Panmunjom, you have to apply for the special tour. Maybe your country travel agency is dealing with it. In my case I applied for it at the Korean travel agency in the Lotte Department. It was one day's bus tour, had bilingual guide. We stopped some point of previous wars, and had a lunch at the Grifis Camp before entering the central Panmunjom.

by Elric

Flights to Seoul are quite easy to come by from most parts of the world. Now the new airport at Inche'on is open, Seoul is very available. Flights go from most European major airports with KLM, Korean Air and Japan Airlines. Flights from LA and San Francisco are quite regular. There is a direct flight to the UK once a day with Korean Air, but it is expensive. The best deal is to fly with Japan Airlines via Kansai Airport in Osaka. You have to stay overnight in the Kansai Nikko hotel, but it's no hassle. the hotel is 2 minutes walk from the departure lounge and is usually included in the price of your ticket. Trains and buses are fast, reliable and pretty reasonable for inter-city travel. Flights between Seoul and Pusan are very reasonable if you're in a hurry. The subway system in Seoul and Pusan is brilliant - cheap and fast. Taxis are plentiful and cheap, but watch out for the black...

Asiana Airlines!Asiana Airlines is privately owned by Kumho Group, unlike Korean Air which is government-owned.In my opinion (and that of my friends), Asiana Airlines provides better services and has a better safety record too.

JrSkymonkey's Transportation Tip

You cant beat the Train and subways for getting around in Korea. They are very cheap and maps are available right outside the customs gate at the airport. Look for the information desk next to the outside wall and to the left of where you come out. All the routes are color coded and the stops are named and numbered. Most restaurants, museums, and other places will mention which stop is closest to them.
