Best Rated Restaurants in Ulsan

Chai: Great authentic Chinese

Arguably the most authentic Chinese food I've had while living in Korea.

The restaurant opened in early 2008, but quickly built up a reputation as a quality establishment. The decorations are not over done, but that's just what you want. You want the attention to be paid to the food...

The sauces, textures, spices and the atmosphere reminds me of the months that I spent in China. But I guess when the kitchen has four Chinese cooks, you can expect the real thing!

Favorite Dish: The Peking Duck was fantastic. And at ~$45, it is much less than getting it in Beijing.
Similarly, the chicken and king prawn dishes are delicious.

The menu is fairly expansive, and has descriptions in English, Korean and Chinese. And pictures too.

Indo Yohang: The original Indian rest in Ulsan

While there are countless Indian restaurants in Seoul and a couple in Busan, there are very few of decent quality anywhere else in Korea.

Indo Yohang is a small venue, with approximately 8 tables. It has a small menu, but all the items are very good quality. The owners are locals, but after they became infatuated with Indian cuisine, studied the art.

For those who have been to Ganga (closest one in Busan), the quality of the curries may be a marginal step down, but the prices are only half.

Favorite Dish: The lamb curry, lassi, garlic nan and samosas make a great meal!

Kebabistan: Authentic Turkish

While obviously there are many restaurants in Ulsan, there are very few non-Korean restaurants to choose from. Many of them come and go because the local Koreans do not frequent them enough to keep them profitable.

An exception to that rule is Kebabistan. It serves Turkish foods that rival those of the homeland of the cooks. And after having lived in Turkey for nearly a year, I will testify to the fact that the food is a good homage to the real thing.

It is open for lunch & dinner daily (last seating is 10pm). No lunch served on Mondays.

Update: Menu has been redone as of mid-2009. The menu is not as diverse and the costs have increased a bit. It is no longer the anticipation of the foreigner crowd's weekend plans, but is a good change from Korean food from time to time.

Favorite Dish: The starters of the humus and falafil are great. The shish kebabs are great too. But my favorite is the Iskander.

Namaskar: The Best Indian (& Nepalese) in Ulsan
DSwede profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

DSwede 1654 reviews

For a long time, there was only one Indian restaurant in Ulsan. Many locals were dissapointed and stopped frequenting it as often since they reduced the menu and raised the prices. In all honesty, we all but stopped going to it.

But thankfully somebody knew our plight and opened Namaskar. They serve Indian and Napalese foods. The menu is fairly substantial and the quality if excellent. The menus give names in hangul (Korean) and descriptions in Korea. There are English names also, but they do not describe each dish in English. If you do not know Indian foods, you may have to ask the staff to explain.

Favorite Dish: The curries are all excellent from the paneer masala to the mutton. Also the tandoori and the chicken tika are great too.

The people is friendly and the service is good. If you eat in the lunch time, be early. If yoy are comming some few minuts over 12, you have to wait for a time before you get your food.

Favorite Dish: For Lunch you have to try the sandwich

The restaurant serves different kind of food. From T-bone steak, Fish&Chips to Mexican and Italian food.
Also as a bar this place has a good ambience. Music clips on big screen TV and also sports are shown for the local foreigners.

Favorite Dish: Almost everything.
