    working elefant

Favorite thing: Usually the area is covered in mist which is needed for the growth of good quality black tea. However, when we travelled up there we had a clear blue sunny sky.

Fondest memory: I guess the moderate temperature compared to the lowlands.

    Hill Country in 1944

Favorite thing: One of the most moving things about Nuwara Eliya is that I was following in my Grandfathers footsteps. He had been here & taken this photo in 1943 or 1944.

He came to Nuwara Eliya for a weeks holiday with a friend during army leave in WW2, from Trincomalee in the north east of Sri Lanka where he was based.

    tea tales

    green tea, green tea

Favorite thing: Tea picking starts early in the day and it is done only by Indian women. Tea needs a lot of rain to gorw, and if it's grown at higher altitudes, its taste becomes even better. Nuwara Eliya, which was founded by the Britishin the 19th century, is located at 1800 metres a/sl.

Fondest memory: The view are fantastic... everywhere you look you see rolling hills covered in lush green carpets of tea plants... occasionally a tiny village or a waterfall provides al ittle change of scenery, and then it's green tea again... green tea.

    hill country

Favorite thing: On the way to the tea plantations there are also lots of waterfalls. Also there are lots of vegetable gardens further up the hills and of course masses of tea bushes.
