What a pleasure to watch these animals enjoying themselves in the river! One wishes almost to join them.
Over sixty Elephants are free to roam around, the baby ones are gorgeous and so hairy. This picture lets you see how much room there is at the orphanage its amazing.
We were a bit worried before going to the orphanage, thinking it might be just like another zoo,we need'nt have worried,we couldnt believe how much room they have to roam around in.
You can have your photo taken with the elephants but will have to pay the mahouts, its a small price to pay to get fantastic pictures.
The Elephants that are reared here are trained to become working animals. This is the best chance to see Elephants up close.
You can walk right up to the elephants,we couldnt believe how close you can get to them. The mahouts are exellent with them.
The larger Elephants work as well, here in the background you can see them moving all the logs. The adult Elephants also nurse the baby Elephants.
After feeding time the babys go back with the other elephants, they have plenty of room to roam around and you can get really close to them it was amazing.
At the Elephant orphange they bring all the babys down to the feeding sheds where they are bottle fed, fantastic to watch and exellent for taking pictures.
This baby elephant was only 5 days old...........her poor mother !!
The gestation period is usually longer for male offspring then female, a normal pregnancy lasts between 19 to 21 months.
If you like elephants, you'll love it at the orphanage! Make sure you don't miss bathing time and then feeding time. An excellent opportunity to take some fantastic photos.
