Upon arrival at the waterfall we stopped in a small cafe opposite and rewarded ourselves with some lunch and a nice cool drink after a long walk in the heat!
After lunch we headed on over to the waterfall, we never bought our swimmers with us so unfortunatley we couldn't plunge in with everyone else! But we climbed out to some rocks and sat on the edge dipping our feet in the very cool water.
This was quite a special place, not only were there a few tourists swimming and sitting around the falls, but there were locals washing their laundry in the falls and in another area a bunch of locals showering in the natural waters!
When we had finished at the falls we hailed one of the local buses to take us back up the mountains into the village.
We walked the scenic walk out of Ella village downhill for about six kilometres to the waterfalls. This walk is beautiful, but be careful as it is a very narrow road with hairpin bends!
We walked down here and enjoyed the views, looking at the other small waterfalls along the way, monkeys in the trees and later monkeys on the roads!
If you walk just a short distance outside of Ella village as if you are going to head down the mountains you will come to the Ella Gap. This offers beautiful views across the valley and is a popular photo spot with visitors.
