I never managed to make it to the cave where Sita was supposed to be held capitive. I did in a moment of madness climb up alongside the fall and have a dip in one of the pools if you are brave enough you can skip across the waterfall and lie on one of the big rocks and suntan lots of the locals do. The water was icy but refreshing!!more
During my 4 days I stayed in Ella I spent everyday chilling at the Nescoffee bar which is now being rebranded as Cafe Chill. Downstairs is a juice and cocktail bar with funky seating whee you can enjoy a smoothie or a tasty margaritta. The terraced area is ideal for people watching and it is here where you can surf the net on high speed wifi or use...more
I stayed at the guesthouse for 2 nights and as well as enjoying my breakfast here I also had dinner one evening. I opted for one of their pizza's which is cooked on a wood burning fire and is by far the most delicious pizza I have tasted in Sri Lanka it is cooked thin base like the Italians like it. It was rather large but I guiltily gobbled the...more
I visited this ou restaurant on a stormy evening and was well pleased I did what a warm welcome I received from the owner who is also the cook. Sampath is a good, polite, friendly, driver& a guide in Ella. He will do one day tours,Airport pick ups,Round tours as you wish.Reasonable prices with a very good comfotable aircon vehicle.Speaks good English so easy to communicate.
As this town is a gentle walking town trainers or walking shoes is advisable although you can still manage in flipflops. A rainjacket of some kind is always advisable to pack in. Also a small torch as street lighting is kept to a minimum for your stargazing enjoyment!!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: perhaps a few plasters, ladies pack your tampons as you will even struggle to find these in Colombo. Nurofen is not available here and panadol is rather weak.
Photo Equipment: Goes without saying batterycharger and converter plug or if european just stick a pencil in the dud top hole.
Miscellaneous: sunscrean purchase at home but the local mosquito repellent is rather good
Ellas rock is a beautiful trip and a must in Ella.
Fondest memory: We have been to Ella for 3 days and stayed in Zion View guesthouse. The view is breathtaking, just opposite Ellas rock. The rooms are very clean and the food was the best in Sri Lanka we tasted. This place just opened 2 months ago, and already turns out to be one of the best places to stay in Ella. It is a very quiet and relaxing place and Sena, the owner of the place, is very helpful and experienced with tourists. He speks not only good english, also he speaks quiet well german, cause he lived in switzerland for some years. Highly recommended place to enjoy your holidays.
