  • Rawana Falls

I never managed to make it to the cave where Sita was supposed to be held capitive. I did in a moment of madness climb up alongside the fall and have a dip in one of the pools if you are brave enough you can skip across the waterfall and lie on one of the big rocks and suntan lots of the locals do. The water was icy but refreshing!!

  • Pizza

I stayed at the guesthouse for 2 nights and as well as enjoying my breakfast here I also had dinner one evening. I opted for one of their pizza's which is cooked on a wood burning fire and is by far the most delicious pizza I have tasted in Sri Lanka it is cooked thin base like the Italians like it. It was rather large but I guiltily gobbled the...

Ella What to Pack

  • jo104's Profile Photo

    by jo104 Written Dec 24, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: As this town is a gentle walking town trainers or walking shoes is advisable although you can still manage in flipflops. A rainjacket of some kind is always advisable to pack in. Also a small torch as street lighting is kept to a minimum for your stargazing enjoyment!!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: perhaps a few plasters, ladies pack your tampons as you will even struggle to find these in Colombo. Nurofen is not available here and panadol is rather weak.

Photo Equipment: Goes without saying batterycharger and converter plug or if european just stick a pencil in the dud top hole.

Miscellaneous: sunscrean purchase at home but the local mosquito repellent is rather good

This is actuakly in Haputale but a good daytrip to do frim ella do leave in the morning before the mist settles for the day. Travel through the Dambatenna tea plantation where you will see lady Tamil tea pickers hard at work and men doing the weighing. There appeared to be a few crosses scattered here and there which made me wonder if some of the workers had fallen to their death. Lipton seat was the favourite look out of Sir Thomas Lipton who created the Lipton tea brand and is the highest point.

The views are breathtaking so be sure ti take your camera alao enough change money to enjoy a cup of tea and sone shorties.

I did the trip on a scooter which made it quite adventurous there is a small toll on the road and near the top we had to walk the last bit as the road was quite bad.

  • Haircut or shave by Janaka

My hair was in need of a funky chop when it gets too long it tends to loose its body. Janaka has a small barber and hair stying shop on Passara road on route to Little Adams peak. He was a little apprehensive to cut a short choppy style on ladies hair even though he creates miracles un mens hair. But soon he gained his confidence and with a blade...
