    by jerry13 Written Aug 26, 2002

I don't have a favorite single restaurant, but there are many good ones.
Most restaurants prepare meals very fresh, so it often takes a long time if you order and sit there and wait for it (up to 2 hours one time!). Better to stop in a couple of hours before meal-time, order what you want and tell them what time you will be there to eat. Then it will be ready for you when you get there.

Favorite Dish: Seafood--seafood in Colombo is second to none it's all stuff that I had never seen before. Crabs are very common, because they're everywhere.

The Curry Leaves: Cheap and Cheerful

by Midgetman Written Sep 12, 2002

A nice place with very nice staff. Runs a buffy most nights for a fixed price. Never have to wait more than a few second sto get service, food traditionally indian unlike the very hot Sri Lankan varieties.

Favorite Dish: Couldn't really say, the choice changes as it's a buffy, but it all was pretty good.

  • few tips: Rice and Curry

    by nbaman99 Written Aug 1, 2009

i see many reviewers saying you can find rice and curry anywhere and its mostly spicy. many erupoion people were unhappy with there food just for this reason.
Sri lankan main food is rice and curry, but it does not mean that you cant find any other kind of food there. the most important thing is do your research. this will give u a good idea about the culture and food.
2 stay in a nice hotel and go to good resturents, not the ones you see on the road while you driving. if you go to a nice resturants, it will be little pricy but you will find the same kind of food you looking for but clean and less spicy. also many cheap road side eateries have pre made food, so there is a good chance you fill eat spicy food.

3 tell the waiter do not make your food spicy and they will be gald to accomedate you, and you will enjoy ur food.

At the side of the road you will find so many little stands were you can get anything to eat.
We made a stop to buy a piece of boiled sweet corn for breakfast.
    Fresh from the kitchen!
