Peacock Seafood Restaurant: Food with a view!

by suemac

A small , friendly beachside restaurant. Nice to sit and enjoy a meal and a beer with beautiful views of a lovely sweeping bay. I also rented a room above the restaurant with an outside balcony. The room was clean and basic. Good value for money. Motor bikes can also be rented. I had grilled tuna with a lovely sauce, chips and salad. Nice and freshly prepared.

A beach cafe,: A beach cafe,

Very friendly service, very cheap!, right on the beach lovely to watch the sun go down over the sea. Whenever we were there (Most tea times) there were not any other tourists (usually a plus!). Cheese & tomato on toast!

The Lucky Tuna: Don't miss the fresh seafood!

by Gypsy_Saskia

The Lucky Tuna in Unawatuna does great food. They're famous for the grilled tuna steaks, but I also loved their prawns and fried rice. The do Sri Lankan curries as well, but as you have to order them two hours in advance, I didn't get around to trying it. The staff is good fun, generally stoned, and happy to play your music. The griled tuna is excellent.

Hero's restaurant, Lewis Place, Negombo.: Fresh daily lobster!

by paz1

Hero's was just down the road from my hotel. It caters for tourists but also has some lovely local curry dishes. Cheaper than the hotel food and more variety. The lobster was sweet and delicious with a hint of garlic and 'J' the waiter remembers how you like your dishes cooked.

Hotel Neptune in Beruwela: Sri Lankan food hot and spicy

by bianchis

Athough a lot of local foods including fruits and vegetables were served, for the less daring, there was a wide variety of European foods to choose from. Prawns and fish and crabs because they were so fresh and delicious.

Soft Drink: King Coconut Mad!

by mightywease

King Coconut Juice is available all over Sri Lanka in restaurants, hotels and, best of all, from stalls by the side of the road.We stopped at such a stall on the way from Colombo to Sigiriya. The vendor simply took a coconut each from a big pile, lopped off the top, put in a straw and handed them to us. Simple, easy and very, very refreshing. It cost us about 10 rupees each from the stall. Double, triple or quadruple the price if you have the same in a restaurfant or hotel. mind you mixed up with some other fruit juice and a generous dash of arrack it makes a mean cocktail!

Rams in Kandy: A must when visiting Kandy

by JohnMG

Excellent south Indian food in a colourful if gaudy setting. Lots of local dishes including veggy. No Alcohol but that doesn't detract from a very enjoyable experience. Meal and drinks for less than 500 rupees ( 5 usd). Great stuff!! A short walk round the block from The Queens hotel. Can't remember, it was all good.

The Closenburg Hotel. Galle: Style and a Great Curry

by John1954

This restaurant/hotel is by the sea, and was built in the 19th century as the private residence of a P&O captain. The surrounding are peaceful, lots of antique furniture which adds to the ambiance, the outlook is wonderful, and the rice and curry have got to be amongst the best in Sri Lanka. The restaurant is know as one of 'the' curry places in the area, and it is quite common for people to travel from Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa simply to eat there. You can just turn up there at lunchtime, but if you plan a dinner, it is as well to book in advance. In spite of a quite extensive menu, it is not advisable to go too far from the rice and curry theme unless you have plenty of time to wait. A table of French people next to us waited 90 minutes for chicken and chips, which I think served them right for being so stupid. (You can compare it to going into the best restaurant in Paris and asking for...

Hopper

by yumiyun

Hopper is Sri Lanka's famous food. It's a kind pancake made into shell shape and can be enjoyed with chilly onions or other things you may prefer. I found it to be like Indian uppam, and was not so amazed. You can find them in many places though. It makes a good breakfast or snack rathern a meal.

Ceylon tea

by yumiyun

Sri Lanka is world famous for its tea. You must try drinking tea whilst you are in Sri Lanka - it definitely competes with Darjeling te from India. Most of small tea shops and restaurants have good quality tea served with or without milk.
