Sri Lankan meal

by yumiyun

If you are confident of withstanding spicy food, try local restaurants. Strangely, meals are served on plate covered with plastic. Rice is served with really spicy vegetables, fish and chicken. It is alot like South Indian food but there is only chilly flavor.

Rotty Shops

by ak47uk

Rotty Shops can be found all over Sri Lanka and are an excellent snack, they consist of a small parcel of flattened dough spread out on top of a hot cooking surface and filled with an assortment of meat, egg, vegetables and spices of your choice and then folded and chopped into four and served, they can also be served whole hot or cold. they cost around 40Rs and are delicious.

Hikkaduwa The best place Ranjhids

by ak47uk

Ranjhids in Hikkaduwa was one of the best places that I ate in all my time in Sri Lanka. The food is superb and it is very quick to get to your table so if you want a quick snack or a full meal this is the place to go. You can have a lovely meal and watch the surfers, and it's also a great place to watch the sun go down.

Parrot Fish

by ak47uk

The parrot fish is found close to the shore as it feeds of reef coral and if you see one being caught why not buy it and ask your guest house chef to cook it for you for dinner, but it is a large fish so you will need around 5 to 6 people to finish it off unless you are really hungry.

Steak and chips

by ak47uk

You can find almost all kinds of food that you find in the west but a lot cheaper, The steak is ok and not as tender as you would normaly find in the western world. The rule of thumb is if you are on the coast the fish is fresher and if you are inland I found that the meat is more abundant.

Rice and Curry

by ak47uk

Rice and Curry cost around 90Rs and can be found every where, It's not too spicy unless you ask for it. You get rice, curry, popadums and some dhal (lentils). You can choose from vegetable, beef, chicken, pork and fish but in some places beef and pork are not available as the Sri Lankans are mostly Buddhist and they don't eat beef or pork.

The Curry Leaves: Cheap and Cheerful

by Midgetman

A nice place with very nice staff. Runs a buffy most nights for a fixed price. Never have to wait more than a few second sto get service, food traditionally indian unlike the very hot Sri Lankan varieties. Couldn't really say, the choice changes as it's a buffy, but it all was pretty good.

This is the dessert buffet from some hotel where we stayed during our tour through Sri Lanka.Hey there is always space for a dessert! Don't you think? ;) This picture shows a dancer who walks on glowing coals. Well, some of the people in Sri Lanka do strange things to their body. I guess you know what I'm talking about. Think of tongues and knifes and...
