I don't have a favorite single restaurant, but there are many good ones. Most restaurants prepare meals very fresh, so it often takes a long time if you order and sit there and wait for it (up to 2 hours one time!). Better to stop in a couple of hours before meal-time, order what you want and tell them what time you will be there to eat. Then it will be ready for you when you get there. Seafood--seafood in Colombo is second to none it's all stuff that I had never seen before. Crabs are very common, because they're everywhere.

Our favourite was at our hotel..Brown's Beach..not a top hotel..but very nice, we got on well with the chef..who had worked at top hotels round the world, we tried all the local meals, lots of curries, different from curries in asian restaurannts in Britain !!.right on the beach with plenty of sunloungers and free towels...waiter service, and its a private strip of beach...the beach sellers had to stay beyond a line of palm trees..... Those lovely buffet meals followed with really fresh fruit..as much as you can eat !!

We did not really have a favourite restaurant. Our favourite snack at the snack bar was the club sandwich which came with french fries. They were delicious.

We stayed at the Triton Hotel on an all inclusive basis so we did not really visit any restaurants outside the hotel. There were three restaurants in the hotel. There would have a theme night in the main restaurant every night eg. Italian, Sri Lankan and Chinese to name a few. The Sri Lankan night was an experience. Very hot hot curries, but nice. Steve does not like curries so he had to go to one of the other restaurants and have one his club sandwiches with chips!! You had to wear long trousers in the main restaurant in the nights. One night Steve forgot and they kindly provided him with a SARONG. Doesn't he look sexy. The club sandwiches were delicious. The soup was always nice too.

My favorite meal was at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. On Monday nights they have a buffet with all manner of traditional Sri Lankan foods. It is a great way to try a lot of different things. If you stay the night the breakfast buffet the next morning is almost as good. I got complimentary breakfast with my room and it was quite good. There were even traditional Kandyan dancers performing for us as we ate on the Governor's Terrace. It is a way to experience the food and the culture both at the same time. Hoppers were some thing I had never had before and I enjoyed them. On the buffet the next morning I also got to have string hoppers as well.

for a mixture of traditional and international food and feeling go to: the 'DELI-MARKET' in the World Trade Center in the Fort area, the 'CRICKET CLUB CAFE' and the 'GALLERY CAFE'.the 'Cricket Club Cafe' and the 'Gallery Cafe' have great atmosphere. the 'Deli' has different counters from which you choose your food. fresh juices, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, cakes.
