The hub - Chatterbox tours
Favorite thing: At present their is a small outlet at kahuna club which offers travel advice and tours. Also for those that need to use a computer to skype you can find 2 terminals here for lkr100 per 1 hour. The lady speaks english well and was very friendly and helpful.

Favorite thing: in Unawatuna there is a lot of competition for motorbike hire so prices are relatively cheap. This place hires their scooters for lkr800 per day (February 2014) the petrol is for your own cost and must be returned with a full tank. Your passport will be kept and you will be given the licence and insurance papers do make sure you have your international driving licence. In theory you should have a sri lanka licence which means you hand over the international and they give you their equivalent I will write another tip on my general sri lanka page.
Their scooters look well maintained and do be advised that wearing a helmet is compulsory I have seen many tourists not wearing one and it is a very unwise decision.

Favorite thing: Some guest houses provide laundry service Kahuna club does for lkr500 a standard size bag but most guest houses only take in house laundry. In unawatuna there are several places that offer laundry service one is Lucky Tuna they have 6 machines and 2 driers. The prices are a bit expensive but they wash, dry, iron and deliver included in the 1 day service price. T-shirt are lkr70 dresses lkr100 & underwear lkr40 to give you an idea.
Beach accomodation not always best choice
Favorite thing: After the problems that have emerged in Unawatuna I would say that accomodation right on the beachfront is not always going to be the best decision. The prices are certainly inflated and admitably there is only a tiny bit of beach in front of the property to make it viable to call it beach front accomodation.
The vibe in Unawatuna is a bustling one with plenty of restuarants and shops in the streets behind the beach. Many of the non beachside hoteks are only a 10-15min walk to the beach and have beautiful gardens. Where I stayed the temperature dropped several degrees after entering the gate it was so pleasent in fact I did not go down to the beach all that often I chose to chill in a hammock.
Places with gardens often run yoga classes and sometimes meditation or have legitamite spas on site. In Mally's garden he has plenty of birds and small wildlife that delight chikdren.

Favorite thing: Net cafes close to the beach are a bit costly, Rs. 60 per hour. There are 2 such cafes which charge the same amount.
Though it wud be Rs. 30 to 40 anywhere, its at premium here since its next to one of the best beaches in the world.

Favorite thing: Unawatuna is said to be the most beautiful beach in Sri Lanka - and it's true. For those seeking white sand beach and clear water, Unawatuna is the answer. The area is less developed compare to other beach resorts in Sri Lanka, but there are plenty of hotels and shops.
Fondest memory: The beautiful beach fringed by palm trees. White sand and broken corals on the beach.
