How to get around Sri Lanka

by earthflyer

I found the best way to get around Sri Lanka is to hire a car/driver, it will take the hassle out of the trip and you can stop off anywhere you like if you suddenly see something that cathes your eye. The cost will depend on where you want to go and who long you want to hire him. Most people arrange this in Negombo since it is the nearest place to the Airport. I had a driver for about 8 days and he took me to the following places:ChilawAnuradhapuraMihintaleHabaranaPolonnaruwaSigiriyaDambullaKandyNuwara EliyaHattonAdams PeakTangellaFrom Tangella I made my own way up the coast to Galle, Hikkaduwa, Colombo and back to Negombo. My driver was a brilliant chap who is proberly retired by now, but he was a great laugh who enjoyed his Arrack whiskey. We had some good drinking nights together.

Best Van tour in Sri Lanka

by nisansi

Having visited Sri Lanka before, we were not prepared for the level of service provided by Sri Lanka Tours, and Anil. He did all the planning, timing, and gave us fair rates ( for Transport and Hotels), really comfortable van and very nice driver called Nandana. Our trip was seven nights and eight days, and we were 7 people all together. The places we stayed at were Dambulla, Kandy (two nights), Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Negombo. We visited the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Sigiriya (not to be missed !), Dambulla Caves, Kandy (I felt that two nights were not enough with so much to see !), Ramboda for the Waterfall and a visit to a Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya, then Kithulgala for White Water Rafting (superb experience !), Bentota, Maadu River Boat safari, Galle Fort, Hikkaduwa, Colombo and Negombo (fish market too !).All in all, very happy and wish any visitors will have a happy holiday too !

HOT ROCK TOURS the best holiday ever

by bayerovi

Just come back from the greatest holiday in Sri Lanka. This was thank to our driver Nuwan and guide Dilshan who kept us a company for 7 days. I contacted them and many other drivers prior our trip. They definitely offered the best price and nothing was a problem. Nuwan drove so carefully and safely that we honestly felt like a king and queen. They had an air-conditioned minivan for 6 people, but it was only 4 of us, so we had enough space and comfort. They were very polite, Dilshan always opened and closed the door for us and more importantly his English was exceptionally good. He also managed to get us the best prices and negotiate the best deals. We still do not know why, but in every guest house we stayed, the owner spoke about our guys as gentlemen and very honest people. This way we managed to see so much and learnt a lot about the culture and custom. If anybody is going to Sri...

Best Tour with Car and Driver !

by carldietrich

This was our second trip with Anil's Sri Lanka Tours. And my family and a few friends wanting to join in, we hired a very nice car, driven by Nimal, and a Very New Large Van for the gang. After spending a long time in sand dunes across North Africa, what better place than the Oasis of Sri Lanka ?This time we headed to Minneriya again to see the Wild Elephants (lots of them), then spent a couple of days in Kandy. The Cultural Dance show was breathtaking as usual. Went to see the Vaddah people (like aboriginals), and Dunhinda Waterfall. Ella was nice too, and saw the Rawana, Diyaluma falls too. Cut across to Kithulgala for white water rafting (exciting stuff), could not resist Sinharaja Rainforest too. A couple of Days at Tangalle, then in a small place near Galle, headed back to Negombo, through Hikkdauwa and Colombo, where we spent the last two days. All in all a nice and varied tour,...

Is important to get a good tour agent!

by huey88

I have contact this "Mr Naim " through begum_tours@hotmail.com as some of the members gave him quite a good review. However when met in Sri Lanka he looks different as compare to the photos as posted in VT. He gave lots of lies and empty promises. So am I meeting the right Mr Naim? Or else the "true" Mr Naim might need to do something to protect his own reputation!

Mal-Key Rent-A-Car

by petergrey

If your looking to hire a vehicle to travel around in Sri Lanka try Malkey Rent a car, they provided amazing service to my family which made the enitre trip really enjoyable. We got to very useful advice on the things to do and not to do when travelling and also advice on the places to see. We got a excellent driver who understood what we said and acted as a guide for us. We hired a 9 seater van for our travels, but these guys have an amazing collection of cars, vans and 4wds and it was a real pleasure to see the collection of rare vintage and classic cars which i heard that they give for wedding hires. We went to malkey through their website www.malkey.lk if you do contact them ask for milindu he helped us with most of the details. oh yea say my name (peter grey) maybe ..you might get a discount .. :) enjoy!

Super Service All Round !

by tanboy

This was our second trip to Sri Lanka, and it is changing so fast ! This time we wrote to a company called Sri Lanka Tours on a friends recommendation. Last time we were in a bus group and really could not see the real Sri Lanka, nor interact with any of these so friendly people. From the first e-mail, they were so efficient, and they were punctual. Every question that I put to them was answered. The entire travel plan was so nicely done, and yet was flexible too. The prices were very fair, and for the excellent service that we received, it was really worth it and more.Scheduling of side trips, excursions as well as visits to the many famous places, and a couple of National Parks were done smoothly. The Hotels and Guest Houses were discussed, and we were offered quite a number of Discounts, at various places like Dambulla, Kandy, Polonnaruwa and Tissa, which we took gladly. From the moment...

Great Guide/Driver in Sri Lanka

by llcole

[updated phone number--August 26, 2011]We traveled around Sri Lanka using this guide, who has his own van with air con. His name is Jagath Wijesiri, and he's a very nice guy, a kind soul. His English is good, and he has a university degree in sociology, and so can answer lots of questions about Sri Lankan culture, life, etc. He is certified by the provincial council as a tour guide. He is also a Steward of Venerable Bhikku Sumedha Maha Thera. He's based in Kandy, but can travel around, and even collect you from the airport if you wish. My friend and I traveled with him for 4 days, and have no complaints at all. I have put some of his contact info below, but please email me if you would like additional info. (This photo was taken at Dowa Temple, which is also in my pages.)
