driver/guide around sri lanka

by ppchard

Driving - I have driven in many different countries without a problem. But after personally witnessing Sri Lankan driving skills, its definitely a challenge only for the locals. Buses - they are very cheep, always full to overflowing, very hot and often unroadworthy. But if you want the trill give them a go, but make it a short trip, and sit in the middle. Trains - You must at some part of trip take a train ride, my advise is that you research the best part, and each get a window seat on either side of the train, there are some of the most amazing views. A first class carried is not worth the extra cost unless the train is busy. Touring - We found a Driver/Guide on the net, that had been recommended by a previous traveler, We were so lucky, he drove us so calmly , and so safely, he informed us of all the best sights to see and when. He got us the best prices on entry costs and secured...

Trip to the Maldives for flight-only visitors

by Maxus

Visitors often fall in love with Sri Lanka but for a couple I once met in Bentota it wasn’t quite the tropical paradise they expected, they were on their on honeymoon and clearly upset so during their second week we arranged their escape to the Maldives. They went with a Sri Lankan travel agency called Classic Travel (website below) but most of the bigger Sri Lanka ‘international’ travel agencies will offer something similar and it is always worth shopping around. Here’s the tip, if you want to visit the Maldives during your trip to Sri Lanka but are you are coming out flight-only by far the best way to arrange it is as a stopover when you buy your ticket. The most expensive part of a trip from Sri Lanka is the flight. Male is less than an hour from Colombo but a ticket will cost you at least $200, the extra you will pay for a stopover is a fraction of this and the savings you can make...

Excellent Car Rental Service

by samy1

I was recently on holiday in Sri lanka and needed to hire a car. I looked up the yellow pages, lonely planet and found Ameri Rent A Car. They were very helpful and even helped me with getting my international driving license and came with a personalized service also very reasonably priced. They had fairly new cars which were in very good running condition. My holiday was very relaxing thanks to Ameri Source Alliance. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone visiting Srilanka and wanting to hire a car. You can also contact them by web www.amerirentacar.com or by calling them on 0094777312848Samy

Great Guide in Sri Lanka

by balynonline

Jagath has been fantastic guide, spontaneus, intelligent and great to travel with. Our experience in his country would have never been the same without him, from his detailed explanations of monuments, culture and history of each place we visited to his great human attitude. Jagath, besides his professionalism, has become a friend.I reccommend Jagath to anybody who wants to visit Sri Lanka, he would really make the difference for a very honest fare and fully deserved.Paolo & Saltanat

travel on a budget

by ThamaraSD

Getting around Sri lanka is fairly inexpensive and mostly safe. For the traveler who is interested in spending less, here are few options that I have found safe and comfortable. For short distant travels try a three wheeler that you would find in very corner. There are no set prices so you might want to do a bit of research and ask your hotel for the expected tourist fare price. Just be careful with how they drive, they could be very reckless. Don't forget you are paying so you control the speed, be in charge........For long distant travel rentals the hotel might be able to arrange for an out side vehicle that is less expensive than their own with an english speaking driver. There are also many reputable travel operators that would take great care of you, here are few that I have actually used and received exceptional service. http://www.walkerstours.com/130, Glennie Street, Colombo 2....

Private Car and Driver

by Tralouma

I have been to Sri Lanka many times since 1984 and have always found the best form or transport to get around the island is to hire a private car with driver. My husband and I have had the opportunity to visit Sri Lanka on 3 occassions during the last 6 weeks as much for business as for pleasure and each time have used Journey Lanka Tours for our transport and hotel accommodation and it is the best thing that we could have done. Our Driver on each visit was Tissa, who also owns the business along with his 2 brothers. Tissa has a wealth of knowledge about his country, culture and places of interest and is not afraid to share both the good and bad points with you, which gives you confidence in the person that you spend so much time with while travelling around this amazingly beautiful island.Tissa cannot do enough for you and will gladly go out of his way to ensure your time in Sri Lanka is...

Take a tuk-tuk!

by flyfreak

For small distances (from one village to another) take a Tuk-Tuk (kind of a 3-wheeler-motorcycle with a roof) and have some fun .. ;-)Your personal driver will stop anywhere for you and maybe show you one or the other shop or interesting place. Negotiate the price beforehand ....In Sri Lanka normally 3 people (passengers) can ride in a tuk-tuk.

Beautiful trucks

by flyfreak

I loved the beautiful trucks in Sri Lanka. It is not easy to take a good picture of them, because normally they pass by in high speed, but I happened to see one in Nuwara Eliya. These trucks are produced in India - they are soooo colourful!
