Visit Alishan.

by troodee

is visiting Alishan in early spring. Cherry Blossoms were blooming, and the weather was great. Though we didn't get to see the famous mountaintop sunrise, the experience of waking up at 4 am and walking along the mountain trail is unforgettable.

The East Coast National...

by Janice_Pai

The East Coast National Scenic Area, known as'Taiwan's last unspoiled land'. I only have been to this area few times, I really like it's beautiful sky and deep blue sea. To the east it is bounded by the Pacific Ocean; to the west rises the Coastal Mountain Range. The land here consists of volcanic rock, classic rock from deep beneath the sea, and shale that has been pushed upward- and is still being pushed upward- by tectonic action. Weathering, erosion, and accumulation have produced a wide range of landforms here, including coastal terraces, sand and pebble beaches, shoreline reefs, inshore islands, and capes along with sea-eroded platforms, trenches, and caves. This varied topography provides habitat for a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The East Coast is the primary homeland of the Amis aboriginal tribe. Amis villages' dot the coastline, and the harvest festivals that they hold in...

The Northeast Coast National...

by Janice_Pai

The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area is located in the northeast corner of Taiwan. This scenic area is noted for its numerous capes and bays backed by green mountains. Its attractions include spectacular rock formations, unique sea-eroded landforms, beaches of fine golden sand, a rich diversity of marine life, and an unspoiled cultural heritage. This area runs from Juifang south to Peikangkou in Ilan county, is noted for its natural beauty: reefs, rivers, terraced rice paddies, rolling green hills, lighthouses, and two of Taiwan's best beaches. Recreational opportunities include camping, rock climbing, hiking along a 200-year-old footpath, and water sports, such as swimming, surfing, wind surfing, jet skiing, boating, snorkeling and scuba diving. It's really nice and relaxing to come over here in summer time.

by Janice_Pai

This is the sunset picture over the Danshuei(or Tamshui) River. Danshuei is a town filled with the relics of its past glory. In 1858, it was the first port in Taiwan to be opened to foreign trade. The bustling trading port that was the Danshuei of the past has long since disappeared. The Danshuei River, which was the source of its prosperity, filled with silt, and the town's commercial functions were taken over by the north eastern port of Keelung. There are still numerous signs of the town's history to be seen. Many European-style buildings, traditional Chinese architecture in the southern Fujian-style, and Japanese colonial buildings are reminders of the town's tumultuous history, which has seen Spanish, Dutch, and Japanese occupation since it was first established in 1629. The trip to Danshuei is extremely convenient if you take the Danshuei Line of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT)...

by Janice_Pai

Like Green Island, Orchid Island (Lanyu) is a volcanic island that was formed of magma erupting from the ocean floor. Because the peaks of the mountains at the northwestern corner of the island resemble red human heads in the crimson rays of the setting sun, it was formerly known as 'Redhead Island.' The present name refers to the wild orchids that once grew there in abundance. The humid, rainy climate has cloaked the mountainous interior of the island with a thick rain-forest cover, and has provided it with a countless variety of plant and animal life. Coral reefs are distributed around the island and the warm Japan Current also flows by, attracting vast schools of fish that make this a paradise for deep-sea fishing and skin diving. Yami Culture: The Yami people have always depended primarily on the sea for their livelihood, a fact which is reflected in their unique culture. The men,...

by Janice_Pai

Chiufen is a simple small town. It has nice and quiet nightviews. I miss the delicious food here! Located up in the hills of northeast Taiwan, the town of Chiufen looks out onto the sea below. Due to the pitch of the hillside, one building does not obstruct the view of another, making for excellent observation of individual houses as well as beautiful scenery. In order to combat typhoons and driving rain, the buildings in Chiufen have evolved distinctive architecture. Layers of black tarpaper cover wooden crossbeams. Looked down at from above, the roofs of houses seem to angle with the slope of the hillsides. Wooden siding is common, as is the use of large stones to prevent the ground underneath from collapsing. Winding staircases, small courtyards, anddark alleyways are classic Chiufen design.

Changhua is in the middle of Taiwan, my hometown. This 22-meter statue of the Buddha is the main attraction at the Bagua Mountain Scenic Area. Two huge stone lions guard the Buddha. To the left of the Buddha is an aquarium, behind it is the Big Buddha Hall, and behind that lie two eight-story pagodas from the top of which the city of Changhua can be seen.

by Janice_Pai

This is one of my favorite mountains in Taiwan. The section of Alishan (Ali Mountains) with which most people are familiar is the Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Legend has it that over 250 years ago, a chief of the Tsou Tribe called Abali brought his people here after discovering these rich hunting grounds. The region was named Alishan after him. Alishan, in fact, encompasses 18 mountains and is a branch of the Yushan Mountain Range. The New Central Cross-Island Highway now links Alishan with the Yushan Scenic Area. The five wonders of Alishan are sunrise, sea of clouds, sunset, forests, and alpine railway--in addition, there is also the culture of the Tsou aborigines, which makes a tour of Alishan even more interesting.
