  • Twin Pagodas. - Kaohsiung
    Twin Pagodas.
    by seagoingJLW
Visit the Dragon and Lion Pagodas. The dragon's throat is the entrance and the lion's mouth is the exit. This symbolizes turning bad luck to good fortune. Inside there are paintings of heaven and hell and of China's most obedient sons.

One of my fondest memories was wandering around the city night markets. There were 3 of us on the first part of our tour. A Japanese gentleman who lived in Brazil and didn't speak much English (not that that mattered, we got around it) and a lovely Professor from Iowa University (who has remained a good friend of mine). We had no idea where we were going but we just left the hotel, first stopped for some dinner, then continued walking. We ended up wandering around night markets. The city at night was brightly lit with neons everywhere, some fairly suggestive ones at that :-).

Two massive pavilions, dedicated to Kuan Kung, the God of War, the Apring and Autumn Pavilions were completed in 1951. In front of the Pavilions is a statue of Kuanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. She is riding a dragon.

Visit the Buddhist Temple up at Lotus Lake

When we were there we saw an orangutang sitting in a rocking chair eyeing us up and down. He left when I tried to take a picture of him.
