1) Taro rice cake: the field is smaller than normal one. With taro cuttings on the top and has strong taste of taro and red onlion. It's the best taro rice cake so far I have ever eaten. 2) Taro ball soup: made of taro and sweet potato flour, it offers you both hot or cold. Pan-A-Po is the most famous store. |

While walking along dan shui, I saw a lot of food store selling “Ah Gei”. Out of curiosity, I went into one of them and try. It’s bean curds and tang fen with sauce. It’s appetizing.

This is a Must Go Night Market. It’s OK if you miss out other but not this. Shi lin is very big. It’s separated into 2 parts. 1st part are more for eating while the 2nd part is for clothing. |

| Wax apple - "Hei Zhen Zhu (Black Pearl)" | | |

I'm not recommending any particular restaurant but introducing a local fruit "Wax Apple". In chinese it's called Lian Wu. It's also commonly known as "Jumbu". It taste very different from other fruits. A fresh good, ripe wax apple feels hard. When you bite it, it's very crunchy yet very juicy because it's very porous. The taste can be very sweet and very refreshing. Normal wax apple is red but there's one kind of wax apple known as the "black pearl" which is dark red in color, even near to reddish brown. I call it the "king of the king" wax apple. It's big and really sweet. Harvest season for wax apple is July to August and there are fruit farms in Taipei where you can pick your own wax apples from the trees! Highly recommended to try! Must try! |

Not a big market. I went here just because near to the hotel i stayed. As all night market in Taiwan, there got many stall of foods, clothes, shoes etc.

Ximending is the place where Taipei's young and trendy gather, buy their clothes and go to the movies. It is a very lively place on weekends and many of Taiwan's pop stars make appearances here. There are many movie theatres here so it is a great place to go to catch a movie. More than anything it is probably a great place for people watching. In a society like Taiwan where conformity is highly valued, Ximending is where you will see Taiwan's youth wearing the latest fashions and being a little bit (but not a lot) different. When people talk about Danshui signature food, it will be A-gei and Iron balls. A-gei: Big square tofu filled with vermicelli inside, served with sauce. Iron balls: Pigeon eggs braised for a prolong time until it's more bouncy than normal braised egg. |

Ah Chung Noodle Soup is located in the Ximending District of Taipei. There's only one thing on the menu- and it comes in either a Small (NT$40) or Large bowl (NT$50). The hot bowl of melt-in-your-mouth rice noodles, the thick flavorful soup, and occasional bite of pork intestine. You can even make your noodles more spicy or salty with the mini-station of spices off to the side. This type of noodle soup is often served with oysters, known as "oyster noodle strand" soup.
