Talking to Taiwanese
dixonchan profile photo

Taiwanese are a group of friendly chaps. It helps if you can speak their language, which is Mandarin and Min Nan Yu.

Taxi drivers usually give good recommendations of the places to go. So if you are stucked, try seeking advice from them while in the car. However, many of them seem very keen to talk about their country's politics. When this happen, just keep quiet and listen to them. You'll never know whether they are on the Green or Blue side, and you won't want to offend them.

Store tenders typically follow the Jap Style, occasioanlly gesturing you to visit their shops with "Huan Yin Guan Lin". (In English, it means "Feel Free to Drop By")

If you can't speak Mandarin, don't worry. Most Taiwanese can speak basic English, with some carrying good conversations with it.

classy uniforms!

what a pleasant experience to go into an upscale department store and see the smiling elegance of a lady at the front desk dressed in this uniform, as well as the matching uniform of the elevator operator ladies who also sport white gloves!

also, the girls on the cosmetic floor, wear matching uniforms at each cosmetic brand area!

Betel Nut stand!

The betel nut stand is popular in Taiwan, and is easily recognized by the neon lights that radiatiate out like spikes from a central point.

The betel nut is grown in Taiwan and sold at these stands where scantily dressed girls help attract men who buy the betel nut!

Chewing the betel nut is like chewing tobacco.

Scooters rule in Taiwan!

Scooters outnumber cars in Taiwan

Scooters are very common in Taiwan. They have special privilage over cars, eg. they have designated stop spots in major intersections in front of the traffic lights, before other cars. You can also park a scooter on the side of a sidewalk. So beware of them when walking on the sidewalk.

They go in between cars, and sometimes take short cuts by going on the sidewalk.

It's convenient to travel around on a scooter, especially in the countryside where the bus services are infrequent.

Betel nut chewing
mim95 profile photo

Many Taiwanese love betel nut chewing. They are not difficult to find in Taiwan. I've never tried it myself but ppl say that it's bitter but stimulating. You chew it and spit out red juices, and your mouth will be red as well.

The social problem associated with this habit is the "betel nut beauties", girls in sexy clothing selling the betel nuts.

Plagat na obrazku laka navstevnikov kina na film We were soldiers s Melom Gibsonom v hlavnej ulohe. Dost drsny film, ale ako spravny film z vojnoveho prostredia ani iny byt nemoze.

The Taiwanese are the frendliest people in the whole wide world, more to foreigners i think than between themselves. You will need to be armed though in case you want to pay a bill cause they simple won't let you!

Did you have a good day , my dearest friend ? I think , sometime we all need to relax like this , don't we ?

A friend .

A friend should be radical .
They should love you when you are unlovable .
Hug you when you are unhuggable .
And bear with you when you are un bearable .
A friend should be fanatical .
They should cheer when the whole world boos .
Dance when you get good news .
And cry when you cry too .
But most of all a friend should be mathmatical .
They should mutiply the joy ,
Divide the sorrow ,
Substract the past ,
And add to tomorrow .
Calculate the need deep in your heart ,
And always be bigger than the sum of all parts .
