Taiwan is a country that lives in night. It has all forms because the sun goes down around 6 o'clock year round.
It has whatever you like. I personally love the night markets... SOME OF THEM. I don't like a couple... Snake Alley being my least favorite. ShiLin being by far the best for secret knockoffs and total selection.
Taiwan has cheap stuff at the night markets, but it is cheap for a reason. It is not always quality. A shirt that is a couple dollars Americian is so for a reason. You might wash it 4 times before it starts to fall apart. Buyer beware... the Taiwanese are not trying to rip you off.. it is just the way stuff is here. Not a rule, but still the general truth.
Night markets are supplied by importers or the house shops that make it in Taiwan. Walking the street you can sometimes see people making shirts or other clothing. Ask if you can buy it there and you usually can... ask for the LAO BAN (Boss). He will often sell you anything in any quantity you want.. cheaper than the night market or day markets.
Dress Code: The Taiwanese dress better day to day than North Americians. More of a Eurapean dress code exists in Taiwan. This does not mean that you won't see the people in rubber boots..and filthy dirty cloths.
Woman dress way better in Taiwan, rarely see tummies or fat. Skirts and tall boots are the norm.... every man's dream.

A very crowded indoor night market with endless food stalls selling good and cheap food. There are tonnes of food that you can sample, such as oyster with eggs, Taiwanese sausage, papaya milk, squid soup....
There are also non-food selling vendors on the other side of the market. But it's much more quiet on that side for some reason.

To the north of the city proper, this vast and rambling night market has scores of stalls that sell clothing, footwaer, souvenirs, and delicious snacks and fruits. Here you will experience the sights, sounds and smells of Chinese culture. This is the king of Taipei night markets!

Here is a great place for local color, selling handicrafts such as teapots and bamboo knickknacks, clothes, traditional Chinese toys, tapes, CDs, electronic gadgets, and other souvenirs. The roadside stalls also sell a variety of local snacks and fruits.

Haushi Street Night Market is located nearby Lungshan Temple. The night market, together with night markets on Guangjou Street, Wujou Street and Shichen Street have formed a large unique market. Various commodities are sold here and it is one of the favored sites of tourists. A Chinese traditional post stands at the entrance of Haushi Street Night Market. Chinese traditional lamps are hung along the street. There are old, historical shops along the street that provide great dishes. For example, the tanszi noodle restaurant, the favorite of Japanese tourists, started its business here. Other great dishes like meat soup and squid soup attract many people. In the summer, chopped ice plates and fresh juice are in great demand. In the winter, dishes with Chinese medicine attract many visitors.

it may be not very special for people who lives in busy city like Hong Kong. But what catches people attention will be the low price food and drink and other expenses. especially the food there is really nice and many food stalls lies along the street with different kind of food for your preference. sometimes you can go to some shops and have a look, may be you can get something from there :)

Nearly every night, Taipei pulses until midnight with bright lights, tasty snacks, and crowds of people buying or browsing through night markets. The markets offer fun, bargains, and generally sell a variety of traditional products, casual clothes, fruit, and snacks. Most vendors speak only Chinese, so pen and paper are needed for bargaining. Night markets frequented by students generally have the best bargains on food, and clothes. These include Shihlin (north of the Grand Hotel) and Kungkuan (near National Taiwan University). Other major night markets are Huahsi Street (picture), and Tunghua Street near the World Trade Center.

Ever seen cayote ugly? (the movie) I'm glad to have had the opportunity to be taken to this place. A very western style bar where you have people dancing all around and ON the bar. No one aks you to come off it so its cool that way. If you want to get a taste for real Taiwan this isn't the place to go but if you're looking for a fun night out then definetly go. One side of life in Taipei that is interesting to see. Plenty of ex-pats go here too.
