Ing-Ge is a small town that is a half hour's train trip south of Taipei. It is well known for it's beautiful clay ceramics and pottery. When you go there you will see many shops where you can buy anything from a cheap traditional ceramic flute to wonderfully sculpted art. Most of the time they have some kind of a sale happening, so you can usually buy much cheaper than the sticker price. On our last trip there we found some gorgeous pieces for 40% off. If you aren't interested in buying someone else's work, then you also have the option to get down and dirty and make something of your own. It'll cost 100 NT to make something out of clay on a wheel. It costs an extra 150 to bake and color it, which will take 2 weeks minimum. If you can't pick it up in 2 weeks they will ship up to 6 items to the same address for 150 NT. If you decide to make more items you can get an additional discount. Leave a Comment

by THLIN Well, just like any other country, in CKS memorial hall, provost guard switch hourly. I think Taiwanese provost guard is well-trained and quite nice to see their performance. ( Although this is a serious situation. ) Next time, you visit Taipei, just take MRT to CKS Memorial Hall station, besides seeing magnificant Chinese architecture, please enjoy our provost guard-switching. Take the train from Taipei Main to Ruei-Fang station. And either catch the bus up to the mountain or take a taxi ( $150). We took the taxi coz it was just faster and more comfortable. The night view is what this place is famous for but we didn't hang around so long. We went up to the mountain at around 11:00am and left the place at around 3:00 pm. Lucky us, cos that way we didn't hit the traffic. Leave a Comment

A couple of weekend ago we went hiking here in Tao-yuan valley. It wasn't a easy hike for people like me who Doesn't do hiking as much. ( Felt like I climbed thousands of steps to reach half way of the mountain.) I almost gave up when we finished the steps. I'm glad I didn't though, coz when we finally reach the top. The view were so worth it. Air was fresh and view was awesome. It's located in Shuang-Si, the north-east of Taiwan. Leave a Comment

by keeweechic On the third level of the park is Kuan Hai Pavilion. This where you get the best views of the city. The best known landmark of the park is a white 25 metre high statue of the Goddess of Mercy in which you can climb a stairway up inside. It is the biggest Goddess statue in Southeast Asia. Location : Chungcheng Park, Ta Sha Wan Shan, East of Keelung City Leave a Comment

Taroko: winding road and sheer cliffs by mim95 Taroko Gorge is actually located in Hualien County. But if you got a day or two to spare, you shouldn't miss this great national park. You'll really be amazed by how the forces of nature can create such a beautiful scenery: marble gorge, the sheer cliffs and the turquoise blue river. It's only about 3 hours of train ride from Taipei. Visit my travel page for more info on the park (see link below). Leave a Comment

by keeweechic The formation area is divided into three sections with the first being made up of the “Queen’s Head”, “Fairy’s Shoe” and Candle”. The Queens Head is the most famous and very distinctive because it looks like an Egyptian Queen. Location: Yehliu - North Taiwan Leave a Comment

Great view of Taipei from Maokong by mim95 Enjoy the great view of Taipei from high up the mountain in Maokong while sipping a cup of Chinese tea. There are many traditional teahouses here, and some actually own the tea farms in the area. Maokong becomes alive at night and during the weekends, as ppl in the city like to get out to enjoy the fresh air in the countryside. There are walking trails in the area. You can get to Maokong by MRT and bus. Get off at Taipei Zoo Station, then get onto minibus #10. You can tell the driver to let you off anywhere you like on the mountain. The Maokong Cable Car will be opened in June/July, 2007. And you will be able to reach there directly from Taipei Zoo Station. Check the MRT website for more info and opening date. Leave a Comment

Main street of Jioufen by mim95 Jioufen used to be gold mining town in early 20th century. Things have changed and it's a nice get-away for city dwellers over the weekend. The village is built on the side of the mountain. The main street is made of stone steps going all the way up from the bottom of the village. There are quite a few teahouses, with a nice view of the ocean. Specialty food is the hand-made taprioca dessert, served hot or cold. From Taipei, take the train to Rueifang, then a bus to Jioufen. by mim95 One of the largest and oldest temple in Keelung, it has been around for over 200 years. It honours the Goddess Matsu. It's best to go during a Chinese festival, especially during the Ghost Festival (7th month of the Chinese calander), when there are lots of activities going on in the area. It's located on 1 ZhongEr Rd. Leave a Comment
